Adding a Spectrometer to My Kit - Sekonic C-800 Test Drive w/ Robe Forte, T2, and Esprite FS Christian Jackson 2021-05-19 | Thus far in my career in the lighting industry, I've mainly been focused on my primary passion, lighting for dance music at festivals and shows where "flash and trash" is the name of the game. However, this last year has shown me just how important quality of light is when it comes to more nuanced shows where cameras are the immediate observer for the show. There are so many things to consider when lighting for cameras and I'm just beginning my journey in figuring it all out, but let's just say that cameras are a lot harder to impress than kids in with GA wristbands in the front row.I've had my eye on the Sekonic C-800-U Spectrometer for the past six months or so, and I finally decided to add this awesome piece of gear to my kit. It's perfect for use in the field as a way to make sure the stage you are lighting is evenly lit and properly white balanced so you can achieve a proper image that looks natural. Please note that this video is not meant as a scientific test of the Robe fixtures that I'm using, this is just a demo of the features of the Sekonic C-800-U to show the differences between halogen and LED sources, and the complexities that come with using LED engines to reproduce colors. It's quite amazing how far LED technology has come, and how far it still has to go. Truly, I do not envy the engineers who are on the forefront of developing LED engine technology. Building My New Lighting & Video Timecode Rack Step By Step Christian Jackson 2020-04-17 | In today's video, we piece together some interesting bits of gear to create an all-new timecode rack that I plan to use on my upcoming gigs. I needed a way to get two streams of timecode from ShowKontrol into a 3U portable rack and send both of those streams to Resolume and MA2 onPC, while also allowing for the time pitching that ShowKontrol requires without damaging the signal. Oh, and I also needed it to be completely plug and play with its own set of parameters to run a ground package of LED lights on its own. Christian Jackson 2019-08-03 | Getting timecode into the MA can happen one of two ways, either with an audio SMPTE signal direct into the back of a console in session, or with midi timecode (MTC) into an onPC station. This method reduces the possibility of audio issues with SMPTE LTC since there is no audio involved at all. RAW vs RGB Mode with Martin Mac 101s Christian Jackson 2019-03-04 | Sicko mode? No. RAW mode allows you to have full control throughout the whole 0-255 range for each color channel. RGB mode is a misnomer, in my opinion, because RGB mode restricts the range of control to afford you the benefit of color-matched fixtures between different models of Martin fixtures.This mode can be changed via any DMX512 console, it's not just for MA2 users.
