I’m super excited to review the iHaper DL1 Smart Desklamp for a few reasons.
1. This is a somewhat unique device. It’s a desk lamp, but it’s battery operated and it has a flashlight too!!!
2. Did I mention this has a flashlight?
3. Proves that iHaper is more than just a light bulb/light strip vendor
The iHaper Smart Desklamp could definitely be used to help shed a little extra light on your workspace, but it’s also versatile enough to be used in the bedroom as a night table, or even just a night light in a Childs room. The iHaper Desklamp includes a dimmable light with touch controls, a motion sensor to make sure that the light is on when you need it, and off when you walk away for awhile saving you a bit of money. The other great feature included in the iHaper Smart Desklamp is the included detachable flashlight.
Although it might not seem like a big deal at first glance, the flashlight piece has been one of the most useful things in my home office. As I go through spring cleaning, it’s been unbelievable useful to be able to reach up and just grab the detachable flashlight to look for a dropped screw or to get some more light in the dark corners as I work on cleaning up the cables underneath my desk.
Although the iHaper device does include a motion sensor, I wouldn’t recommend using it in the majority of motion-sensing use cases in your homekit home. The main purpose of the motion sensor is to turn the light on and off which it does natively. Because of the strict timing of the motion sensor ( 5 minutes and 30 minutes ) in practice it seems less useful as a motion sensor when you want the lights in a room turned on quickly. On the other hand, if you’d like to tie all the lights in your office/room to one motion sensor and you can live with the default timing, the iHaper Desklamp might be a great fit for you.
The other thing to note is the lack of Amazon Alexa and Google Home support. Unlike the iHaper Light strips and Light bulbs, this device currently supports Apple Homekit only although I’m hoping that additional ecosystem support might be enabled in the near future. I guess we’ll just cross our fingers!
