Under the direction of Music Director Emeritus Steven Schick, the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus presented Igor Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring), one of the most influential works of the 20th century. Premiered in 1913, Stravinsky’s groundbreaking ballet score is renowned for its driving rhythms, daring harmonies, and bold orchestration. Originally met with shock and controversy, the work has become a landmark in modern classical music.
