A drifter named Kenny returns to his small hometown, restless and unable to settle down, while his estranged wife Mary comes back from Chicago at the same time, drawn to the local racketeer Lew who's grown wealthy off the town's gambling and carnival business. As jealousy and pride collide, Kenny's small-time friend Gitlo plants a deadly idea in his head, and one impulsive act of violence sends everything spiraling. With the law closing in, loyalties shift, and Kenny is forced on the run while the truth about who's really guilty slowly comes to light.
