For over 20 years, the Justice League Unlimited episode Epilogue has deeply divided the DCAU fandom. Many claim that Amanda Waller’s Project Batman Beyond twist completely ruined Terry McGinnis's character, but I think they’re looking at it all wrong.
In this video essay, I break down why the infamous twist doesn’t destroy the narrative of Batman Beyond, but actually elevates it. By reframing the story from a journey of self-improvement into a profound exploration of legacy and choice, Terry accomplishes the one thing Bruce Wayne never could: he chooses happiness.
I analyse the psychological framing of Terry's imaginary "flashbacks", Amanda Waller's true misunderstanding of the Dark Knight, and how this episode serves as the ultimate, heartbreakingly perfect conclusion to Bruce Wayne’s entire tragic life.
