The restless Brazilian madlad responsible for the Spark The Electric Jester series, as well as some amazing Sonic fangames is back again with another banger... or so I'd like to say. I actually enjoyed the demo for XF Extreme Formula and I knew that LakeFeperd had been wishing to make a racing game for a long time.

It is, for all intents and purposes, just F-Zero GX with a different coat of paint... and that certainly isn't a bad thing at all, in fact it's great. Characters and ships feel distinct from one another handling wise and the track design is for the most part really well done given the insane speeds you can reach.

My gripes with the Demo for XF are mostly related to performance issues, as well as difficulty balancing and audio mixing. On my end performance was solid provided I played a touch below the maximum settings (then again I'd expect so with a Ryzen 7 5800X/ RTX 3070 combo), but I heard other users having really bad performance on beefy rigs . Difficulty balancing is also pretty whack. Like, take for example the 1st track you play... even on Normal, your first time playing you'll struggle to get first place or even get a podium, whereas on other tracks you can finish with a big lead even on Pro. Also the audio mixing, more specifically the SFX feel... limp and lacking impact. The soundtrack itself is great tho, no complaints here.

And lastly... I just enjoyed XF Drive more, aka Lake's previous attempt at a racing game. It has a demo in SAGE 2019 and it was basically Outrun meets Trackmania and for some reason... it was just scraped... it just felt more unique compared to another AG racer. We already have Aero GPX, which looks like F-Zero GX but with enough to set it apart. There are also Redout 1 and 2, ballisticNG, Pacer and Fast RMX (Nintendo Switch) for those who want their F-Zero racing fix.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a fine racing game, but I feel LakeFeperd is a bit late on the AG racer revival train...
