This idea just came to me one day! It wasn't planned or anything like that. I wish I could give you some detailed breakdown of what made me want to do this. Almost like I was having a big brainstorming session or something. Reality is, this was one of those random 'laying in bed' thoughts. "What would In Hell We Live, Lament sound like as a JRPG Battle theme." I then got obsessed with the idea and then this was born in the span of a couple days.
A few things to mention. In terms of arrangement, I primarily borrow from the first two sections of the original. "I walked down a path" to around "I bite off the skin." The second is the "Lament if you wanted me..." sections. Since the original slows down during the "Tick, tick, tock" parts I thought it made sense to already close off the loop at that point. I then needed to think of some in-between parts to merge the gap. Naturally, this was inspired by my favourite JRPGs such as Final Fantasy. The opening section is HEAVILY inspired by Daughter of the Dark God from OCTOPATH TRAVELER. I really wanted that big orchestral sound so naturally it made sense.
In terms of composition, there are strings, brass, piano, a lot of percussion, bass, electric guitar and choir.
And if you're super interested in some of the technical aspects, I worked with dry sample libraries. Largely because I wanted as much control as possible over the overarching sound. So as a result there are two reverbs.
