The Ice is breaking up along the coast of Northern Alaska and in settlements like this one there is an air of expectancy - a mood brought on by the appearance of Coast Guard ice-breakers clearing the way for a 56 ship Navy task group bringing new supplies for the workers engaged on Dewline, the joint Canadian U.S. operated distant early warning radar network and here's the fleet, now in safe water, loaded with what it takes to maintain and expand the top of the world station, where friendly eskimos are the only folks who can be called neighbours. Her primitive tattooing is now tabu, the tribes deciding that its anchonomistic before the coming of such modern world wonders with their magic radar eyes. A network which extends from Iceland and Greenland to the last of Alaska's Aleutian Islands, Dewline, in the event of an air attack over the top of the world, will give Canadian & U.S. Defence agencies from four to six hours advance warning.
