The IBM AS/400 Computer was introduced in 1988 and was almost immediately successful. This video gives a short intro followed by an original IBM film on how to upgrade your AS/400 to the PowerPC technology with RISC architecture. HD photos and color illustrations describe the 64bit architecture, PowerPC upgrade methodology, and upgrade tips. Vintage 1994-1996, with the big advancement in technology and rebranding the AS/400 to the “Advanced Series,”’ IBM went from the beige color (white) format to the now familiar "all black" case design in May 1994. Originally called the "Silverlake" project, the AS/400 was highly successful minicomputer line, selling over 500,000 units. Many systems survive today, including evolution into more modern versions of the architecture. The 400 was IBM's most successful minicomputer family, replacing the IBM System/36 and IBM System/38 computer lines. A nice look back at the continuing evolution of this iconic mid-range computer. Runtime: 18 mins. Hope you enjoy! Film & photos copyright (C) IBM
