Brief Biography
Ian Robertson graduated with a BA Visual honours in 2006, after thirty years as a teacher and lately school psychologist . He now paints in the field or in his studio at M16 Artspace Griffith A.C.T.
His Approach to Art
Ian has an interest in landscape painting capturing the colour light and forms in abstracted shapes.
Connection, contour and colour are important in his art. He paints in acrylic, oils and water colour from plain air sketches and photographs, reworking the light, forms and colours experienced in the field.
In his abstract work he uses acrylic paint on unstretched canvas to recall the colours of the atmosphere and land. The pigments are allowed to pool and mix and form the basis on which later detail is added in as stronger areas of oil painted shape and line. His figurative landscapes of desert and mountain wilderness have been collected by many private buyers nationally and internationally since 2006.
