Greetings from Spain! That’s where I actually got much of the inspiration for the music and its title. Yes, the video footage is from my last year's Portugal video trip, so actually it’s a Portuguese/Spanish inspired creation. I’m currently doing a kind of longer vacation just for myself, something I rarely have done in my life so far. I’m exploring southern parts of Europe I haven’t been to yet, not so much for sightseeing, more to soak in the vibe of different cities, villages, the people here and landscapes. I like being here. I enjoy the weather, the mild and warm climate here in Spain, the vibe on the streets and inside buildings. I can’t speak Spanish, but I like the sound of the language. I have a travel keyboard and a laptop with me. Helped record this tune, partly at a camping site, partly in a hotel room. This is my only on the road multi track creation so far next to the 2012 creation N°054 ( youtu.be/tcPQ5hL8zUc ).
So, for me those weeks are to explore new things, regions, climate zones, cultures, landscapes, ways of life, to question my current lifestyle and way of life, see, learn, experience things, expose myself to new ideas. Because I feel I’m stuck in my old life somehow. Because I feel I need to adjust things to be healthy and happy moving forward. When life doesn't feel right, but I don't already know what version would feel right, maybe one way to go about it is to stop doing the old version and start exploring new things. There are millions of things to love in this life. Millions of ways to live a life. And I feel it doesn't have to be too complicated with too much stuff, burden, or stress in it. I allow myself to explore new things now, for some time to come. I got only this one life. It's a gift I want to use in a way I can smile at. A bit less mind, a bit more heart and inner voice. Explore. Find beauty. Live like it is meant for a human.

Chances are you're facing a challenge right now with implications for more just yourself. What we work on rarely implicates only ourselves. Often what we work on touches the lives of many. Thousands. Millions. Possibly even billions. Humans. But also animals and ecosystems. But also if you feel the challenge you face or deal with is a very personal one, this music session is for you.
Sometimes the winds are in our favor. Sometimes they aren’t. Sometimes motivation is high. Sometimes the burden, the drag, our energy draw, the other players' power or simply the challenge seems higher. Is giving up an option? Sure. Always. It’s always up to you to decide how much you can endure, how far you want to go, how much you can give. How many rests you need. The pace you can personally sustain. Taking time for exploring and seeing new ways maybe. And then, I’m aware, not always it’s us who set the pace of developments. But also not every mission we’re tackling has to be a clear 100% win, like those wins we know from competitive sport games for example (winner takes it all). A meaningful partial success that adds to a greater good, a positive change, might be exactly what’s being needed in the big picture. Anyway, in your project you probably know best what a threshold looks like to call your mission a success. Sometimes we will never understand the full impact of our actions here on Earth within or even after our lifetime. But even if our thinking brain alone can’t know for sure, oftentimes our heart, after consulting the brain, knowledge, and your inner voice does know. It knows what’s the right thing to do, the right way to go. When the matter is important to you: Hang on to The Challenge. I’m with you.

Besides being simply another calm relaxdaily piano session*, "Night Shift" celebrates all those who work shifts or times that are off the main day times for personal and professional work. Road construction workers, nurses, emergency, security, transportation professionals, students, or the mom or dad who's doing work while their kids are already sleeping come to mind, but there are thousands or millions of other cases. Sometimes we shift work into the night, or quite early or late hours because it serves us well, it is true to our nature, it is the best solution, sometimes it means extra effort, it might be even unhealthy for some, but we don't see a better, healthier option, or maybe mismanaged our workload, or stuff we’re not really responsible for happened, or so. Night shifts can be occasional or continuous. Can be fun or the opposite. Can hurt health or for some not.
I actually sleep during most nights, and I'm super happy about that. This wasn't always the case. In my earlier years, I worked round the clock, in some phases until the early morning, and then got up at noon to continue. It was a not-so-healthy time for me personally. I'm not the night owl type. I'm aware, the world doesn't really sleep at night, though. Good that I can do so. But I'm thankful there are those who keep things rolling and do their best so the next day the rest of us can continue thriving. Thank you all night shifters!

I knew I wanted to play and record another piano session these days, but in the end this one happened pretty spontaneously. There was such a special wonderful light coming into my space from the outside this morning, that I rather jumped onto the opportunity and was recording within one hour after the decision to do so. My camera wasn’t able to capture the light’s true beauty, though. Or maybe I'm not the best camera operator? But hey, in the end here is a new tune I can share with you 🙂
The session’s title “Authentic Success” is there to remind myself what I truly want to manifest in my personal life, and in our world. It’s a reminder not to follow the dreams or goals of others if those are not in line with my true self. It’s about what many in my generation realize: The old standard recipe to finish university, then work hard 10h a day, then find someone, marry, have kids, buy a house, have two cars and live a life as expected of you might not be the only ultimate success theme for every single one of us, or for me. Maybe I want to work only 4 or 5 hours a day? While being productive and adding value to my world. Maybe I enjoy being much on my own, having the freedom to follow my interests, develop my potential, while socializing with others at the dose I personally find right? So many different minds, so many different definitions of what personal authentic success might be. Often we realize what it is for us only by exploring, tasting, experiencing things for real. Some dreams might look different on paper than their real world counterparts…
For me personally, as of right now creating music under the right circumstances and running - even though I’m currently injured from last summer’s too harsh approach to train for a trail marathon, so you find me rather on an indoor bike than in running shoes since a couple weeks - those two, are two real examples of mine. When I can live out those two healthily, it makes me happy. With the running thing: I’ll never win a larger city marathon. For some, winning could be the definition of success in running. Great! For others maybe just finishing. For me it’s something in between. Moving light-footed. Like a well trained antelope. For hours. A wonderful image of authentic success to me. On the music side, it’s more about getting out into the world some of the music that’s really deep inside me. It’s probably a lifelong journey. And, sharing it meaningfully with many. That’s important to me, too. Creating value for others, and making a living this way.

Similar to the last piano session title, with this one I think about getting myself on the right track - with what I do, how I do it, how it makes me feel, and how I contribute to our world. A friend invited me to join a meditation series a couple weeks ago, it's called “21 Days of Abundance” by Deepak Chopra. I enjoyed listening to it a lot, and the questions and ideas in there helped me to re-prioritize a couple things in what I do and in life. So if you want to go through the material as well, the best sorted places I quickly found are the following two (podcast of 22 short recordings - it can take 30-60 minutes per day to think about the material):
I also did listen to Deepak’s audiobook “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success” that deals with some of the concepts in the above meditation with a little more detail: amazon.com/Seven-Spiritual-Laws-Success/dp/B0000548LZ
One of the core ideas I resonate well with is that success, however we might define it individually, or fortune, abundance, or whatever we desire, we can create that with effortless ease, when we act in harmony with nature, established in the knowledge of our true self, and are motivated by love.
My personal take on “in harmony with nature” is: in line with the written and unwritten laws of the universe, our world, planet, ecosystems, physics, mankind (psychology) and societies, etc. Personal side note two: For companies, nations, organisations, etc.: “knowledge of your true self” seems to be applicable in such contexts as well.
The core idea is the promise, that there might be a version of life, your thing, your project, your work, your family, what you do, that adds love to our world, beauty, utility, service to others, while it fulfils you, and at the same time feels effortless to you, when a bunch of criteria are met.
I find this a beautiful idea and I’m already on my way exploring this path in my life. This is a personal matter. In Deepak’s meditation it’s day “Day 11: Abundance and the Law of Least Effort”. It’s also covered in the audio book.

In her talk she’s sharing a couple valuable ideas that seem to relate to each other, one of those being what she calls downstream effort.
The analogy comes from paddling a boat up or down a river. Up means upstream. That’s hard. It’s hard because to get ahead we need to outpace the stream itself first, which goes the opposite direction of where we want to go. We lose much of our energy working or fighting just against the stream. Depending on the scenario one might even ask if such an effort makes sense at all or for how long this kind of effort can be sustained. Might it be an option to ask for help or hire others to pull or push the load together? Or should we find another way to get to our goal or destination? Or is the goal even the right one for us?
Our destination might be one of the dreams or ideas we desire to reach. It might be our work. The stream might be energy that goes against our values, it might be an oversaturated marketplace, inflation, it might be toxic coworkers, boss, company, culture, toxic people close or less close to you, a wrong environment, traffic jam, an illness, a situation, or simply a goal not aligned with our true selves? …all things that pull much energy before we can get any step ahead.
Then there’s downstream effort. It’s nice, first because of the absence of some of the energy working against us. Also, because by just placing our boat in there it travels in the direction of the stream on its own. We just want to make sure not to bump into any rocks, corners, or other boats while traveling. But in general, traveling the pace of the river this way seems to be quite effortless.
So what can be such downstream currents in our lives? Well, that’s your task to find out.
It might be a path followed that’s truly authentic to you, not something you are enchanted to do or believe by society, norms, external influences, even parents, but maybe something based on the spirit inside you, a talent or set of talents you're born with, or have been guided to be good at, something you’re just naturally better than most by default. Or knowledge or skills you acquired in your life. Imagine building effort on top of that. It might be living in accordance with your current values. It might be a healthy environment on many levels. Or as big and beautiful as living a life aligned with your true self. Try reflecting what upstream and downstream effort might be to you. Maybe do a personal list again. Maybe share your findings in the comments to help inspire others.
That’s basically it.
Another Michael note: I think we humans are made to spend some time in our high effort zone. That’s what the eyebrows in our faces are for. So we can still see our path even when the sweat is flowing. In this super competitive world, I have a feeling, healthy and happy will be the ones who figure out what they truly are, what it is they want to add to the party, and who live by that. The right balance of effort and rest can get us there. I’m still working on my personal life flow. Do You?

With the previous piano session I reflected about a personal ‘Dreams List’ (youtu.be/_AjNdbXDQwI ) that might be a good tool to explore wonderful opportunities that could still be waiting for us to be activated. ‘Vision List’ is a different kind of list. It’s about reminding ourselves of our current personal values, bringing them forward into our consciousness. Why?
Our personal values are an important part of who we are - and who we want to be. Being aware of those can help as a guide to make choices in many situations. I believe when our life matches our values, it feels good and we feel life is right. If this is not the case, we may struggle and risk losing energy because we are surrounded by factors that do not align with our values. Of course, there is always the opportunity to learn, become more resilient and thus help us to be less affected by all the suffering in the world today. But what if we did everything we could to position ourselves (mentally and physically) in a place that embodies most of our most important values? Wouldn't that be a fantastic, worth striving towards life?
For example, with an up-to-date personal values list, you can compare your most important values with the most important things in your life, perhaps figuring out why something felt so wrong for so long or why another thing felt just right. We could compare our values in the three worlds of “work/career/what we do,” “personal (you outside of your work world),” and “friends/family (close people around you).” A fourth could also be “living situation”.
Another option might be to compare your personal values list with your dream list to isolate the dreams that are closest to your most important values and therefore may be particularly worthwhile.
In either case, I suggest starting by putting together a list of your personal values and then perhaps prioritizing your top 6-12 and maybe even your top 3. I think it helps a lot to have a short list of top values. This helps us see who we are more clearly and can aid in decision making. Furthermore, having to judge every personal decision based on 20 or 30 values can become an impossible task, even more so when multiple people are involved in a decision, for example in a relationship, family, company or social environment.

One more tip: when going through lists of values as a way to choose from: To arrive at true results (which I feel is so important) I found it helps to ask when you see a value embedded in a word: “Is this really me? Am I this, or does this just sound cool?” Of course we can add a couple “I-would-love-to-be-like-this-values” …just mark them as “possible-future-me”, or as goal values and hold them against future actions and behavior to see how well you do.
Important note to myself: Different people have different values. This oftentimes makes our world an interesting one, helps progressing, and gets us to new and different solutions. Diversity is what makes a system and humankind survive. This means while it might be fantastic for us to arrive at a lifestyle that really supports and embodies most of our personal values, it’s also important to accept there are others with a different set of values to ours. And none is right or wrong. A big task of being humans on this planet is to get along well, coexist, and do so not only in an accepting manner, but knowing that diversity is a source and maintaining force of life, helping us to prosper and thrive.

This session's title is about your personal Dreams List. It might be an opportunity to connect deeper with yourself and your life. Or just a quick fun activity. Don’t believe me? Read on, do the exercise. It doesn’t cost you any $. The exercise is simple: Take your phone, tablet, laptop, or pen and paper, create a new file and name it “99 (insert your name) Dreams”. Now, you guessed it, you start with “1)” and write down one of the dreams you still have for your life. Hit “return”, add the second one, then the third. Do maybe 20 in one session, or fill all 99 spots at once. It should be fine if this takes you a week though, too. Don’t be too picky. This is a time to be spontaneous. Add anything that comes to your mind. The serious things and dreams as well as those crazy ones. Anything you wish that could come true now or someday in your life, no matter the circumstances.
Don’t think about how hard it might be to accomplish any dream yet, this here is just about getting your dreams on that very unique and individual list of yours. Anything goes. There might be simple, bucket list like items that simply can be ticked off once done, like “finishing a marathon”, or more long term, maybe unachievable, or sustainable, or always to keep active things, like “running a sub 3h marathon (takes a good while to get there), or simply “manage to go running every or every second day in healthy air for the sake of enjoyment and my physical and mental well being”, as examples for fitness and wellbeing dreams.
Think also for example about how you want to feel on a daily basis. I for example like to feel fit, not tired, having slept well, feeling physically and mentally fit, not being rushed, being able to take my time for the things I do (life- and workstyle design), even if that seems to be the opposite style of how most do things today.
Think about your living situation, air and water quality, noise levels, feeling safe, your health, how you commute, your work, how you spend your time, your relationships, the relationship with yourself. Is there anything you would like to add? Anything that you would love to get rid of? If you’re one of the few ones that are already completely satisfied with life and you can’t get out a single idea, or if you’re stuck with goals and dreams for just yourself, try dreams you have for the world, like things that might make our world a better place. Things like opening a healthy, nice to be, sustainable and affordable place or chain to eat, to be, or to work, or investing or engaging in building sustainable housing, truly green, ecologically and socially friendly energy solutions, manufacturing, transportation etc.
This is not to get you 99 more things to accomplish before you die, or to make you feel bad for what you have not accomplished yet in life. This is to remember and evaluate our current values, what we feel connected to or with, to feel the fire that still might burn in us. Maybe from that list at a later point in time one of the items lets you know somehow it actually wants to be acted upon. Who knows. But that’s for another topic. Another title. Another piano music session.
You can always get back to this list and update it, add items, cross items, done or undone, if they don’t align with your values anymore, or because you found after trying to manifest one for a while that the dream you had actually is not an authentic one for you for some reason.
Dreams can lead to goals. Goals are great to keep us in motion. Motion is great for health. Heath is great for happiness. A healthy and happy you is what you deserve.

No huge philosophic exploration this time. Just a quick reflection on my personal power napping experience. I frequently do short power naps and also longer sleeps during the day if I feel it might benefit my mood, well-being, performance, or health in general.
A few words on PN (power naps) I found on the web: “Still powerful and focused in the morning, often around noon, our energy levels drop. This is actually quite normal, because our biorhythm is most effective in the morning for many of us. The consequences are lack of productivity, imbalance, loss of concentration and creativity as well as increased stress hormone production.
When kept to about 10–20 minutes per day, power naps can make a great addition to a healthy lifestyle and promote a variety of benefits for those who take them.
Studies have showed that napping can boost mood, memory, and attentiveness. Taking a nap in the afternoon can help us unwind and release tension and can be an effective way to enjoy boosted energy, focus and concentration, increased attention, and mental clarity.
Naps should not be used as a substitute for getting the recommended amount of sleep each night.”
For me, there are days when I have so much energy, or zest for action, or some sort of pressure to get things done, that I don’t even consider a nap during day time. But when reflecting on my past years, I always felt better and more me, when I implemented more or less extensive rests, me-time islands, and yes, some power naps into my days. Last weeks I extended power napping to something longer: a short sleep during the day. I’m currently doing some sort of an experiment and pushing myself hard for 3 months to prepare for a local trail marathon. Will be the second marathon of my life. This time with some altitude and partly on rocky terrain. I chose a training plan that's let’s say a level above my current skill level. Well, that’s the Michael I am. Now what allowed me to keep continuing the partly hard training for many weeks, while being super conscious about my nightly sleep quality and nutrition intake as well (and also what not to take in), was additional extra sleep in the afternoon on a couple days. I believe this extra resting helped my muscles, tendons, and cardiovascular system to recover just a little more, before doing the next tough running session through hilly nature. This is not stretchable infinitely, our bodies have specific regeneration times after specific actions. But it shows me that in times when I need a little extra turbo for a project I have my priority on for a while, I can get that performance boost I’m after through more rest, through a more enhanced regeneration.
This idea could be translated to other human activities and endeavors. A student training their knowledge muscle in their chosen discipline for years might have a plan for how to regenerate and keep a healthy balance to perform at their best during a day, a week, a semester, but also a plan to survive the full span of their university time healthy, strong, and still with love for their chosen field. A mother or a father will seek a similar way to balance the needs of their kids, income generation, health, social, personal, and other needs. A CEO or board of a company that shapes the world, or a politician who takes their job serious (or anyone taking their job serious) might want to include daily, weekly, monthly, yearly breaks, rests, reflections to take a birds eye view on their progress, and to check if the direction of their ship is on track, or if it’s still the right direction the ship is sailing towards at all. And, to finally use the power nap analogy: between those longer super crucial (nightly) recharges, those quick splash and dash power intakes, be it energy in form of nutrition, rest (power nap), or interaction with nature or other humans can have that little extra energy impact that might enable us to the breakthrough were after, or simply to allow us to function the way we feel is right.

We arrive in this world quite folded. As a kind of code given to us by two people, half each. If things go well, we become a little human, with a basically blank hard drive, but ready to take on almost any planetary challenge, language, culture, survival, and other tricks: time to unfold.
Parents, friends, teachers, people we meet, things and practices we experience, all of these can either help us unfold ourselves and our potential, or they can do the opposite: keep us pretty much folded, teaching us the many “don’ts”, discouraging us from curiosity and learning, socializing us to not explore truths, chances and possibilities, but to do what is the “norm” in our bubble society, becoming largely a product of narrow cultural values and ways of doing things.
Outside influences are often successful in keeping us folded (some also help us to unfold). They can emanate from political, economic, or spiritual powers that have grown strong enough to shape media, culture, our values, and what we think is right, to their will.
I guess most of us remember Maslow’s hierarchy of needs from school? ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow%27s_hierarchy_of_needs ). I want to borrow from that list and ask a question: What would happen if we would start building societies and nations that by design and promotion could help every member to satisfy (and unlock) most of those needs, like clean air, water, healthy food, the right temperature, clothes, good hygienic conditions, shelter, healthy sleep, health, personal, emotional, and financial security, family, friendship, intimacy, trust, acceptance, receiving and giving love and affection, self-respect and respect from others, creativity, foresight, curiosity, as well as meaning, having beauty in life, having the right partner, being a great parent or teacher, utilizing and developing talents and abilities, pursuing meaningful goals, feeling, relating to, and behaving as one towards oneself, to significant others, to human beings in general, to other species, to nature, and to the universe?

When I visited Portugal earlier this year I was able to watch some pretty wild Atlantic waves hitting the shore. That was powerful and also inspiring to see. An exchange of powerful energy. Sun powered wind, the ocean, the land, taking, giving.
I like to compare elements I see in nature with elements I see in our societies. To protect myself mentally, I try not to look too closely at all the human problems in the world too often. But the feeling and realization never quite goes away that I am simply part of a so-called "developed" nation that, through powers to sustain itself and our ways of life, creates at least some wild winds for others and sooner or later for myself, too.
So what wild winds do we face in 2023? To name a few: heatwaves and droughts (Spain+), fires (Canada, USA+), floods (Italy+++), clean and safe water scarcity (around the globe, potentially coming to a town near you this summer), crop failures (where drought prevails), hunger (Africa+ again), global power games and wild winds in the global economy (could cost a job here and there), wars and nuclear weapon threats (again?), human rights abuses (well…), AI tornadoes (here and now, with positive and/or negative effects for individuals), humanitarian disasters (too many), serious loneliness on the rise (in most "developed" countries like US, UK, EU, Japan...). Well, wild winds ahead. …Hello peaceful spirit. Does it affect me? Do I have to care? Or is my bubble still holding?
But my idea here is not to focus on the wild winds for fear or panic. It's about understanding the changing environment (time and space) we find ourselves in, where things are going, understanding the big picture where possible, and getting a better sense of some of the immediate threats that affect us personally (maybe a changing or dying industry we work in, our geographic position) so that if necessary we may look for and find opportunities to reposition ourselves for the years to come. It's about growth. Personal and social growth.
In nature, unlike humans, individual plants cannot move when conditions change. They get eaten by animals or die from heat, drought, storms, or floods.
But we humans (mostly) have two legs, two hands and a brain. We are made to move. Physically or mentally. Or both. Not falling into fear, or losing energy by only debating how unfair things are, without looking for solutions. Wild winds like the above mentioned ones can be triggers to make us stronger. When we choose to go the path to become stronger.
Observing carefully, understanding, thinking, doing something in a different, better way, and learning from others leads to solutions. Sometimes just for ourselves. Sometimes for a whole group or society. Imagine a group of 1,000 or an entire city coming together and building for themselves a climate disaster proof water desalination and/or recycling plant and distribution system as an example of a collaborative solution for water shortage. Or an individual changing industries and/or looking for a more sustainable, healthier, and happier lifestyle as a personal solution.
If you ask me, I’m not ready yet to be replaced by AI. I’m not ready yet to give up on this planet. Not ready yet to give up on humans as a species. I see so much room to grow. To grow stronger. To grow more beautiful. As individuals. As societies.
I like feeling alive. To be. To enjoy this ride.
Maybe heal if you need healing first. Then, maybe join the rest of us to grow stronger, possibly become the most beautiful version of yourself and enjoy this ride with us.

Yes, I know, although I try, many of my actions are far from perfect. I, as what I am, am far from perfect. And yet I'm learning to be cool with it. I look at the phrase "You are enough" and feel "Yes, that's right, I am enough". I am who I am, I have good intentions, I seek to create and share helpful things and beauty, and with it to create my place in our world. I am on my way to becoming my true self.
Nothing is stable in our vibrant, ever-evolving world. Every organism strives for survival, growth, finding its place and function in the system, giving and receiving, becoming part of the whole or dissolving. In a human world, this also leads to competition, effort, striving for competence, skill, excellence, understanding of what matters, sometimes simply hunger for power with no deeper vision for the good of all.
This keyboard piano session is far from perfect. Despite my best efforts, the result is not my best game, the lens focus is not on point, the weather does not show the full beauty of the landscape. And yet this music video is part of my journey. It's made with love. An experiment. For me it belongs here. Part of my journey as a musician and human being. I almost decided not to share it with you. But here we are.
I think knowing that we are enough without judging individual results, personal traits, looks, or opinions too harshly could be important. Just recently, I heard a fairly successful CEO of a large rocket company celebrate a test flight that lasted only a few minutes and ended with a rocket explosion. He says it's about learning as much as you can with each next step. I think that's strong. We may or may not like rocket programs, but this attitude seems intelligent.
Long journeys to distant, undiscovered places (places within or outside ourselves) usually consist of many steps. Some even say the journey is the goal. Then I would say let's take many little, joyful steps. Maybe using precision, excellence and near-perfection only when it really counts. And maybe using our energy wisely. Maybe designing our week, month, year to be enjoyable, meaningful and fulfilling.
Life is a balancing act. Life is beautiful. This life is yours. It is to be enjoyed. Because you can. You are enough.

Hello from sunny Portugal! I found this exact place by accident. But I was looking for something like this. I imagined it first and then I found it. Helps to know what you’re looking for I guess, what you want, what you need.
Before came the awareness of what I don’t want. Or the feeling that some things about my current situation are not right for me personally. And the feeling that a longer trip to somewhere else, also where there’s more warmth and sunshine, where what burdens me is not present, where there’s distance to my usual ways of thinking and a couple cultural bubbles, distance from going about my day in the usual manner, is what might help, is what I want to go for. So I guess, sometimes it’s also about knowing what’s not good for you and leaving that behind. Or to just take a longer break from that to catch some fresh air.
So here I am, sitting on the rim of a cliff in Portugal at the Atlantic Ocean. What an energy! Strong waves are hitting the rocks hard, like giving a high five to the land, saying, “Hi, I’m bringing new life. Give me a piece of you, I’ll help transform it into something new.” Birds are flying by. Below where I sit I see fish in the ocean. I thought there were no more fish in the ocean. But there are. I see it with my own eyes. And fisherman fishing for a few creatures that don’t know the difference between natural food and trick bait. The sun is hugging me. Ocean wind massages my skin. What a wonderful day.

A bit later the path got even more tricky. I lost the official path somehow again. I would say I was in a yellow to red situation for my hiking skills and with the equipment on the back. Guess what: someone (an angel human?) saw me from further up the hill and guided me to a safe path up the hill again! Those are the moments you cannot plan, you just accept them with gratitude, keeping them in memory for life, and possibly give back the good energy to another person or organism at some point in life.

Today’s calm piano music session is also a meditation and reflection about an idea that’s simple and complex at the same time. To end all suffering is huge. It might be unachievable, impossible to realize, even something questionable to strive for. One might argue, it's part of the human psyche to suffer, a mechanism to evolve, to experience things and life itself, to grow. Yet, to me it feels like an underestimated, important value, a goal to strive towards, in order to develop our personal and collective full, true, and unimaginably beautiful potential.
What would happen if I, you, we ask ourselves a couple times during the day a question like:
How can I contribute today to end all suffering? How can I contribute today to end all suffering?
This is crucially different from today's more often found “How can add monetary value to the GDP and my account?”
A different take on the question: Do I or did I add suffering with that action of mine? Or: Is what I do (e.g. the thing I do for a living, or my general style) actually contributing to less suffering in our world?
Not always can we know the full effect of our actions. Life is too complex to understand the complete truth about everything. There are and will be instances where we intend to do good, and still add suffering. On the other hand, this is 2023 and we all have access to many different sources and types of information and brains to process things to create a more complete picture of things than ever before.
One example: the CEOs, bosses, workers and marketers of say car company A and B do their jobs very well, believing they add value to the system, their customers, their shareholders, their bank accounts. True, value is added. They create and market wonderful tech. Safe to drive. Great. At the same time, suffering is added. Historically, today, and in the coming decades.
Those two brands choose to create mobility products that by design use unnecessarily huge amounts of resources and energy in the manufacturing as well as during operation of their product. A product with a vehicle to payload weight ratio of roughly 10:1, or worse, that most often carries only 1-2 brains from A to B.
Yesterday's thinking danced around GDP and its growth. A bigger, heavier vehicle could be sold for more $, therefore adding more to the GDP (monetary market value of a society). How sad. Of course, this had to translate to illness and suffering globally. Heavy vehicle = way more tyre rubber use than light vehicle = particle pollution = kid’s lungs don’t like it = suffering Heavy vehicle = more resources, energy, pollution = faster unfolding of ecological and climate catastrophe = leads most likely to the end of all life as we know it, planet wide across all species = suffering
We can think this through with other industries like clothing, eating, housing, “happiness products”, as well as behavioral actions.
Now, how do we implement the end of all suffering thinking into our world? Simply: Map the suffering a product, service or behavior does (can use multiple and diverse brains for doing so). Think of 10 or more ways to reduce that suffering by 50, 80, or even 95%. Optionally, find a business model around that. Implement. Optionally: Replace stock market index with index of no suffering. Reaching 90% of no suffering might be a number to strive for, what do you think? Let me know in the comments.
So, car brands: Maybe look at what Aptera is doing. Plus roll out light, highly sophisticated one seater designs. Nations and states (I know you believe you need financial growth & tax revenue to defend yourself from being eaten by other nations and states): Look into the possibilities of international pacts, into what truly socially valuable, climate and ecological sustainable jobs, services and practices are. Grow those and mute those that add suffering. Also: It’s OK to learn from other nations. Implement the best from abroad. Implement social justice and polluter pays. The rest of us: Ask the questions above. Related to a job, to an individual action. Daily. Google/YouTube: How can I exclude polluters like in the example above (or even specific products from specific brands) from showing ads in front of my videos, without excluding less polluting brands? Me and other YT-bers don’t want to be a platform for those who obviously add unnecessary suffering. Allow us to choose to end suffering. Invite the good ideas to YouTube.

We all know what healing is about. Something, someone, maybe you, maybe society, maybe the planet is hurt, is broken, is in pain. Either because it’s at its lifecycle end, or because of an illness. The first is simply part of the wheel of life. The second can often be counteracted.
Healing is close to regeneration. It’s similar. It’s also close to rest, relaxation, and sleep. In sleep we heal and regenerate, too. Many systems regenerate or heal simply from letting them alone and giving them time. Sometimes not continuing to do something that created the illness is the key.
Other times there might be a specific treatment necessary to initiate healing for a specific illness. I believe there are often multiple paths that can lead to healing. Often also, the healing process has a time window of activation. I had to see people die needlessly to be able to say that.
If we start taking care of ourselves or something too late, it might actually be too late. Some systems cannot recover after reaching a certain point of destruction. In any case, I called this tune ‘Heal’. Often we can heal if we choose to do what is necessary to heal. Let the healing begin.

There’s power in calmness, quietness, a well sorted, focused, peaceful mind. There’s beauty in peace, too. On many levels. I chose this title because it’s something I wish for myself. And I don’t want to be selfish. I wish it for you too. I believe in a fast paced, complex, information and items dense, fast-changing, super-connected, always-on world, it’s especially important to cultivate a sense for and methods to achieve a mind state of calm and peace. Interestingly, that's not one of the things I’ve learned in school. But I’m not resentful. I can still research and learn about this important skill, and try implementing it in my life.
You might be already there, or maybe it’s something you want to tackle too? If yes, what are items that (maybe?) keep your mind rather cluttered, negatively stressed, or attached to ineffective behaviors, items, people, things? Is it worrying about your personal life, about another, about our world, or maybe there’s a specific app or behavior that steals your mind’s and body's energy without making your life actually better? Is there a “too much” coming from your work or your private life, or maybe both? Or is there even an emptiness in your life that’s possibly making the mind un-peaceful? Will be different for different people. I’m not looking for answers to all the above. Maybe you see one thing for yourself that might be worth tackling.
For me, I plan to get rid of some clutter in the coming weeks, get my living and working space a good degree more cleaned up, maybe also clean up business and project related things (though that’s a life task here). But I also want to be there for and with a few of my fellow beings.
Another thing:
Winter arrived in the northern hemisphere. It’s freezing here where I live. A time when nature slows down dramatically. To rest. To save energy for warmer and sunnier times. I’m nature too. Maybe I should slow down during the coming weeks too. Maybe work 50% only? To allow the body and mind to rest and repair? To play? What about you? Do you slow down in winter months? Do you have a work contract that allows you to do less hours in winter months? Or do you do it the other way round, is it even a time for you with boosted productivity, because less things might be possible to be done outdoors because of freezing temps?

The second relaxdaily tune featuring coastal impressions from my recent Portugal video trip. Views I was able to capture on a beautiful, slightly misty morning. I see people doing a walk, people fishing, people on their surfboards waiting for their wave, later in the day a few go for a swim in the ocean. I try to capture the beauty of the spot. Our planet still has beautiful spots. Peaceful looking even. Back at home my intention was to compose and record a tune that amplifies the energy of that morning. But also it carries energy of things currently being on my mind.

From my personal logbook: year 2022, November/December. We’re still drifting through the galaxy. Speed, rotation, angle, all good. Main energy source is still hitting with roughly 170 terawatts continuously. CO2 level at 417 ppm. Average surface temperatures +1,1 degree celsius, with reported extremes about plus minus 10-20 degrees off the norm. Climate and ecosystems are accelerating to destabilize. Same seems to be the case with some societies and power systems. It’s raining bombs on European cities. It’s raining bullets elsewhere. A Western Asian Nation was so kind to invite the others to play a ball game on their grounds. Rainbow colors are not welcome, but many enjoy the games. How do you do fair in a complex world, we still have to learn about that. How to be fair to the host and respect their tradition when their tradition is against your values and way of life? We’ll figure it out. That’s the beauty of such culture clashes. A lot to learn. Currently most bow to the boss. The boss is still oil and gas money. It obviously governs even governments. Somewhere else, a man is fixing the blue bird company. Car manufacturers sell less units while making more profits. Less can be more. Greta’s climate book is out. Kind of the new bible for some. Did the first edition not work? Some say God had to send another one, this time reminding us to “love the planet”, additionally to yourself and your neighbour. Makes sense. Hard to live and love when there’s no habitat left that supports life. Some say mankind can survive almost any conditions. Double the heat, double the cold, double the wind speeds, double the droughts, and the flooding, kill most natural ecosystems, all easy to manifest, we just keep doing our thing, they say it’s all easy to stomach. At least for some. The fittest will survive. The “undeveloped” countries again at disadvantage, as it’s forecasted to hit them more often, more hard. Helps the richer ones to keep that gap. When will they get our game? When will they step up and start playing at eye level with the exploiting ones? Same for exploitation within societies. Is this how the code of our species works, is it simply the way? Is this what we want?
I don’t know. Some obviously yes. That’s why I want to learn to see.
Let me see. Let me position myself. Let me do. Let me relax.

Portugal. Wow.
I was able to capture this life giving ocean energy on a September morning before breakfast at the Atlantic coast about one car hour west of Lisbon. The sun is still not up. The first surfer is already taking the waves before (I assume) getting back to his wife to bring her great coffee to bed and some romantic time before they head off to work. Or maybe they don’t head off to work. Maybe they spend the day together having a good time, talking about what they care about, going for a coastal walk, holding hands, breathing in fresh ocean air, and maybe later in the afternoon doing a couple hours of giving to their community. I guess he’s a teacher and she’s a programmer. But that just my guess.
Back home, I’m in Heidelberg, carrying this Portugal coastal spirit with me. Trying to find the notes on my piano that express what’s on my mind, what I was able to experience.
‘Recharge’ is thinking about the question with what and how we recharge our systems and our selves. To recharge means to being able to live and experience another day. We can recharge things in an electric way. Like we do with our smartphones, tablets, laptops, our electric cars, the heating and cooling of our solar, wind and maybe battery powered houses. We can do that with clean or we can do that with less clean electricity or energy.
Similar with physical and mental body and mind recharging processes. Sleep, diet, activities, the workplace we choose, the cause and meaning we work for, the people and relationships we allow to be in our life, or what other items, ideas and topics we allow to be in our day, this all can deplete or it can recharge us. What we expose ourselves to, that’s what we become, that’s what our life becomes. Don’t you think so too?

So, I’m back from a recent video trip in Portugal. My first time in this beautiful country. Was able to see (still) beautiful coastlines, a great energy Atlantic Ocean, and also a good amount of plastic waste on some coasts, too (fishing gear). I was able to experience great hospitality, and kind and intelligent people. This one is my first composition and recording of hopefully at least a handful upcoming Portugal featuring tunes.
A little mind food on the title: We allow our smartphones to do it to function. Our laptops, too. More and more cars and buses do it. Maybe your house already does it too? Recharging. Plants like trees on land or algae in the oceans do it their way: they recharge their surrounding environment with oxygen, digesting CO2 in the process, to help us and other species breathe the next day. Humans do it in multiple ways: sleep restores energy, grows and repairs cells and tissue, and allows the brain to store and manage information captured during the day, so basically helps us to install the downloaded software and firmware updates, so we can play with the rest of us the next day, knowing what to do to not look like we’re from the last century. This and other human recharging processes are powered also by a healthy diet, healthy amount and quality of physical activity, and for the spirit and mind, the stuff we expose ourselves to on a daily basis.
Like a house that can be run on gas, coal, oil, or nukes, all very toxic inputs, we can recharge our systems on toxic inputs for a while as well. But everyone knows what happens to a system that’s being run on unhealthy or uninspired energy for too long. Need a reminder? Just turn on the news for 5 minutes. But we can recharge and run our systems on healthy energy by choice, too. With saying NO to BS, choosing or building healthy environments to live and work in, healthy relationships and conversations, inspiring, authentic and sane educators, entertainers and leaders, going for meaning in what we do, maybe also learning to love ourselves more, allow ourselves to become our true self, go after goals that not an external force wants for us, but what WE feel is healthy for us and our world.
Choosing what we surround ourselves with on a daily basis is choosing the fuel we recharge our bodies and minds with. In the end it’s everything. It's what we become. It is what our life becomes. It’s what I assume we will see in super time lapse in front of our eyes when we exhale our last breath.

Title: Steps | Type: original fantasia piano music session
I did a similar piano session title back in 2020 “One Step at a Time”. The thinking behind “Steps” is very similar. Maybe it’s a lifetime topic?
Is it just me, or are we humans meant to do complex tasks and projects, and live complex lives in a complex society and world? Is it because with the capacity of the organ we call the brain we have a tool to go after complex things, if we chose to? Uggh, sometimes I wish life was more simple. Way more simple. And then, sometimes there’s an idea or vision I’d love to see manifested in my life and going after it ends up being a quite complex matter. Now that I think about it, yes, it’s probably because we live in such a well connected world, having so many options, touchpoints, playing this game interacting directly or indirectly with many many people, tools, products, laws, territories, all at once. We don’t play in a village or town, not even a country anymore. Often we play in a global village. Which can be both: exciting and demanding.
Within my relaxdaily project, often when I start going after an idea I’m again and again surprised by the complexity behind the way to get there, and how many steps are involved to solve the puzzle, or say, to manifest the vision I might have. Sometimes I might manifest an idea within days, sometimes within months or even years. Sometimes I give myself or have available a budget of time and resources and am surprised where I am, after having burned through it. Often solutions are simply bigger and more complex than I originally thought or hoped they would be. Decisions must be made then. Either it is possible or viable to continue pursuing the original vision or idea, or it's wiser to stop pursuing it. Or maybe it’s possible to find a healthy middle ground, a point of progress that can be wrapped up, that can be considered a true step towards the original vision, knowing how much energy it took to get there, appreciating the result, also knowing or being aware of what it might take additionally to reach the original vision. Ok, probably true with most things but not all, as some issues (like that global warming thing) might demand very definite solutions, where some sort of middleground would only lead to a disaster.
So, there are usually many steps that have to be taken to get to beautiful results. I just want to remind myself of that and accept it. Also to accept my personal limits. Also to be grateful for having learned things during a growth journey, having arrived at a place that's better than the one before. It’s about not feeling only disappointment at not having reached the original ultimate goal, but to be thankful for being able to have reached a meaningful step towards the vision, a place between A and Z, between yesterday and today, today and tomorrow.
You might be working on some huge tasks as well. Maybe you’re working on a solution how to feed or house yourself or your family, or you’re working on peace between nations, or in solving a part of your nation’s energy transformation process, or you're the one who helps communicating to the public in an effective way why we’re transforming the energy sector around the globe right now. There are millions other hugely important things you might be working on right now, when you’re not relaxing. I wish you great progress in your personal project. May the steps you take get you or your team gradually to your vision. May your goal be a good one. May you allow it to shift to a truer one, when a truer one becomes visible. May you feel good about what you do and don’t burn your body and mind while working on your project. I currently enjoy riding my system on warm, sometimes hot levels, but try not to burn it. May you be able to do the steps necessary to reach your visions in a healthy and beautiful way.

When I think of glory, I think of achievement or a desirable state. When I think of it as a direction in life, I think of creativity, beauty, health, time well spent, joy, true happiness. Sometimes it can mean to fight, to defend, to take effort. Sometimes it can mean following a path of constant, smooth, enjoyable motion, following personal interests, feeling alive, elevating one’s state, growing, while respecting resources, boundaries, and other life forms.
The title could have been “Back to Greatness”. “Back to Glory” is stronger, and it's what popped into my mind recently. Maybe my body's cry for getting back to creating beautifully again?
Why back to it? Have I, or have we as individuals, neighbours, collectives, companies, societies, nations, humanity lost it? I can’t speak for you, but this is how I relate to it: Maybe it’s simply in my DNA, maybe we all have it, but one of my values seems to be greatness. I love great things, days, environments, objects, designs, results, states of being, people. I believe we human beings are the greatest tech that exists on this planet, and that each of us has tremendous potential for unbelievable awesomeness. Incredible potential. And even more so when you put a couple of us together working on one thing. It’s a joy for me to see the development of the human race from today’s perspective. History teaches us where we come from, our lifetime experiences show us the current state of art. Of course not everyone would say they lead a glorious life, and we all have different stages in our lives. A potential for awesomeness also doesn’t mean we are automatically entitled to it. After all, it’s a potential. But one thing I believe is: We all are born as glorious beings. Most young kids, and some adults, remind me of the insane potential there is almost every day.
I once had the idea of creating a YouTube channel filled with music that might somehow slow down the fast pace and rush of so called modern life on earth. At least for some. My ideal was to create, record, share the best music (and video) I personally was capable of. For me as a pretty average person, I knew this would mean dedication, focus, some renunciation maybe, and lots of work. Was I able to create what I set as a goal for myself? I don’t know. In the past, most of the time I felt like I didn’t get even close to my full potential. But recently I learned to accept that for a few minds and hearts the music I create is just right. And that’s something I’m very grateful for.
I still don’t know the exact cause, it might also have to do with an unbalanced lifestyle, but I got weaker in the past years. Maybe I burned out a bit? I cannot carry heavy camera systems anymore to film nature, I need more sleep, can’t watch at computer screens for too long, there are days when I feel I got only half of the energy I’m used to, or less, in some of my days. Maybe you are in a similar situation, physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually, or maybe you are completely fine and super happy. I for myself had to take a slower pace in the past years, and it might be necessary to continue this way for some longer. But I also noticed just recently that there are two states of being. One is to grow, the other is to diminish. Of course there’s also a super important third one that I’d call to regenerate, but I believe that’s a healing state belonging to the growth state. What I noticed is that I want or need to be in that growth state again. I need a goal. A reason. A vision. A direction. One that is true to who I am. To move forward with meaning. On more than one dimension in life.
I’m not ok anymore with seriously risking health for the success of work or results. I will allow my engines and systems to get warm or even hot at times, but I don’t let them burn (anymore). With that in mind, I want to find ways to continue creating beauty. Efficiently, effectively, and sometimes just for the sake of it. Following my inner voice, the me inside of me, allowing ideas to manifest, while respecting resources, boundaries, and other life forms.
I can’t know where you are in life. But I’m sure you’re born as a human. That on its own is glorious. Breathe glorious you, breathe, as long as you can, be yourself, grow, play, love, take the game controller into both hands and play your life game, feel the beautiful light around you.

This one is inspired by the most beautiful and refreshing massage I ever received, on the evening of day three during a five day hike I recently did, allowing me to continue the challenging five day tour as planned, following my personal zest of life on a beautiful island in the Mediterranean Sea.
Gentle Forces, is a reflection about skill, art, way of doing things, immersion in a topic, passion, the will to serve, doing something with soul or beauty, maybe also mastering a topic, while applying only the forces needed in a sensitive manner: Being gentle is not about being weak. It is about the feedback we receive through our senses, about applying power or energy sensitively or delicately by choice when and where needed.
Energy can be released in tiny or huge amounts, and anything in between. We, in the role of the energy releasing individual, can do this in a very controlled way. Our built-in sensitive feedback system is partly given and partly a trainable capability. Beautiful results come from a controlled, sensitive, or as I call it, gentle release of energy.
We can observe it in race car driving, where historically drivers had to have a great feel for the forces the car communicates in order to be able to ride the vehicle on its edge. Huge forces at play there, but driver's input, especially on the gas pedal, must be very precise and rather well balanced. A great massage therapist, who has knowledge of the human body and a great feeling for the body of a client, and together with feedback from the client delivers a wonderful, regenerative, refreshing and relaxing massage. For piano players and other musicians it’s about feeling the instrument in order to be able to control the tone and emotion of the music. For those with communication needs it’s about knowing their topic, their intention, and having knowledge and a feeling for the receiving individual on the other side, when teaching or communicating. I believe getting a feeling for something and applying forces in a gentle way can be trained and used in many fields and situations. And not only in masterful situations. Also in simple everyday ones.
We can choose gentle words, a gentle tone, we can deliver our service in a gentle way, design products, software, spaces, or environments to be gentle with the planet, the environment, its species, and human beings. For example by designing or choosing stress-free and healthy products and services that are quiet or not audible at all and release less or no toxins. Or e.g. by designing or optimizing or choosing a software, a service, a law, a procedure that is gentle on the users’ mind, helping the rest of us to understand and use it with ease, and therefore go through our days with light and happy bodies and minds, conserving energy for the truly beautiful experiences in life.

Last week has been a difficult one for me. To watch a bird eat another one alive brutally is hard to digest. Seems to be part of nature's code though. To watch a human society do this to another is terrifying. What happens in Eastern Europe right now tests us a lot, teaches a lot, hurts a lot.
Sitting here in the colors of the oceans and the sun, or the blue sky and yellow wheat fields if you will, I dedicate the music to the People of Ukraine, including anyone touched by the brutality taking place in their land currently, as well as to all humans anywhere on the Planet who must endure violence or suffering of any sort and degree, be it physical, mental, or otherwise. Also I extend the dedication to all species and habitats.
As a collective global human race we have a long way to go still, before we reach our true potential. We’re getting there though. Closer every day and with each and every lesson. One step back, two forward. I‘m with you.
We all want to be alive and feel alive, be part of the whole, see and be seen, develop our full capacity and ourselves, be strong, experience the beauty the world has to offer, feel joy, love, and happiness, feel safe, secure and protected. Let us get there in dignity.
Playing what my soul feels, I ask myself and you: What kind of beings do we want to be? Who do we want to be?

Similar to last year, this winter I had a couple weeks of reflection and thinking about life on Earth. About all of us on that ball-like spaceship we call Earth, and just me, myself. It’s simple. I’m struggling with my personal CO2 footprint. The heating of my living/work space part. Living in Germany, with relatively cold winters we use lots of energy to heat the houses we live in. In most cases. Especially true with the older houses that are not isolated to most modern standards. So the CO2, or CO2 equivalent gases that are released to heat the space I live and work in, that’s what bothers me right now. A lot. I’m not done with exact calculations, but I realized it’s way too much. Probably 6 tons CO2 per year that I could avoid. I want to be a good human being, one that cares for the planet and any future life on it. I just became aware I’m not. This makes me sad.
And instantly I want to do something about it. And I know I can. I don’t blame anyone or show fingers on anyone. I blame myself. I chose this place and constellation, I rent this space, it’s up to me to do better. But it’s not as easy as buying a new pullover, a bicycle, or any product that’s easily available today. You don’t switch living situations that easily, especially not if your goal is to live a super tight CO2 footprint lifestyle (not so many energy-superefficient houses on the rental market), and you don’t have a gazillion Dollars or Euros in your pockets (to build your own). Circumstances and some sort of luck led me to be in a way too large space for over a year now. But only now I realized what this means for my personal footprint, how much CO2 equivalent gases I add to the atmosphere this way, and my impact on our global man-made climate change.
I've been deep into the topic for a couple weeks now, analysing the CO2 footprint of my space, how the numbers would be if I would share the space with others, and how the numbers would be with different sorts of other theoretical housing/living situations. So, one idea is to share the space. A space basically uses the same amount of heating energy no matter whether one, or five live in it. So having five people in here would cut my footprint in the heating area about 80%. That’s something I could live with. My other areas, electricity, mobility, food, consuming stuff are already OK to great, with some still improvable. But that housing/heating one is a no go with my current situation.
Renting and moving to a small, very well isolated house/apartment is also an option. As well as building one by myself. Or buying a small old one and bring it up to most modern energy efficient standards. Or, moving to a country where there are no cold winters and no hot summers, and get a space there. All options are not an easy route. I just began feeling home here. We’re building friendships and a good community here in our street. I think that’s worth so much and I’m not sure I will be part of something like it ever again, if I move. For buying and building there are financial reasons that make them unlikely options.
But I know I can find a way. I feel it. Actually I feel a 4 tons CO2/ year lifestyle would be OK. Quite tough to realize here. In Germany most do something between 8 and 20, with about 11 on average. I know I can do 6 flat here easily, maybe a 5, when living very CO2 consciously and a mostly by foot and bicycle lifestyle. My heart tells me: You can get there. You can make this happen. You Can Make It.
Is there a project in your life right now that’s tough on you, one you feel it requires lots of energy, thought, willpower, change, maybe even a bit luck, one you know will not happen if you don’t fight for it?

Title: Where Is The Path? | Type: original fantasia piano music session
I was riding my bicycle through the hilly forests here and found a path I haven't been on previously. It was a wide path in the beginning. It led to a forest kindergarten. From there the path became narrower. At some point I could not see it anymore. I think I’d just turn around if it wasn’t for the kids. Suddenly there are about 15 kids about 3-6 year old on my left side. “Who is thaaaaat?” I hear from one little mouth. “A bicyclist” I anser. I ask the kids if they know if and where the path continues. “Yes, yes”, they say and explain a bit about the territory and show directions. I say thanks, continue my ride for a couple seconds, then two narrow paths show up. One left, one right. I turn my head around to the kiddos. 15 faces are still looking at me. “Left, or right” I ask one more time. Within a second 15 hands show to the left. “There you must go!” OK, that was pretty clear. I follow the narrow path and after a while I get back to something I feel safer riding on again.
A wonderful experience. Those kids were totally immersed in their play when I showed up, but also immediately gave me their attention when we started our brief talk. And super kind with explaining what they knew about their path system. I won’t forget the picture I saw when I turned my head around and all 15 hands showed in the same direction. So cool! In this moment we shared a mission. To help that biker (me) to get back on track. They were very caring. It felt very natural. Inspiring. I wonder how often in life when we don’t see our path clearly we could just ask someone who knows the territory, but we don’t ask, or don’t see that person, and try to figure out things on our own. Of course not all situations can be translated to that example so easily. There are very complex topics sometimes, and very specific ones also. Often it’s good to do own research, or own soul search. But still, I believe there’s also a good amount of power in just asking or working with the right person.
In life I see paths in career, health, relationships, skills, education, physiological paths, psychological ones, and many others. I could ask questions like “where is the path to a very low ecological footprint for me as a resident of this country, so I get below average globally on relevant emission metrics?” or “where is the path to create a sufficient income with a 20 hour work week, so I can spend the rest of my time with my friends or in the garden, or at my instrument?” or “where is the path to learn to play the piano beautifully in all keys?”, or “where is the path to a loving, kind, caring, reliable neighbourhood?”, and probably 100 more. ... It was just a really nice encounter with those helpful kids in the forest. I wonder if I can learn from it and start asking more people for paths and directions in life.

‘No Need To Rush’ came to my mind when I was doing my morning stretches earlier this week, and part of my mind was drifting off. Instead of doing the exercises and my morning routine mindfully, focussing on each move and part, my mind was looking for a shortcut and was thinking further into the day already. Then another part of my mind said ‘no need to rush, Michael’. That helped. It reminded me to keep doing my routine slowly and mindfully, one step at a time. Not long ago, in a conversation with a friend we talked about lots of stuff. How we feel, how it comes that we’ve sometimes been more productive in more dense, less perfect times of life, and somehow less so in times with near perfect circumstances. We explored, or tried to figure out what kind of motivation drives us to do what we exactly do and when our days feel fulfilling and when less so.
Towards the end of the video call my friend brought up a phrase she learned back in university. It was close to: “Young people often follow their dreams - wise people follow their bliss.” Well, that one was new to me. I’d like to find out more about it. We didn’t have a class about that topic back in school. Not about following dreams, nor about a thing like bliss. It led to the tune’s title.

Last year I started creating and maintaining a list. A simple but powerful one. It helps me to be more mindful and aware of life’s simple and beautiful things. It helps me to be happier and healthier. Allow me to share.
I called it ‘What Gives Me Energy’ and I got a pro tip from a friend to fill it also with little things that can be easily implemented during a week or a day. I instantly understood the potential power of this list. It would be a list very specific to me, I could not add wannabes onto it a.k.a. items I’d THINK might boost my energy, rather only items I already KNOW give me positive energy, because I already experienced that.
My first item was a quite broad one: Sport or exercise - just doing a walk, or a hike, go bike cycling, with or without music on my head. The feel good option: doing the above on a sunny day, preferably in the beautiful closeby forests. I then added feeling the sun on my skin mindfully, cooking or baking mindfully, eating unhealthy-labeled things like ice cream and pizza of the highest available quality, chopping wood, gardening, watching plants growing, insects and animals doing their thing, watch kids explore their world, to get into my day slowly and peacefully, starting with being grateful for another day above ground, a body that will get me through the day, a few stretches and little exercises, before I grind a few coffee beans (manufactured to my values) by hand, pour hot water over the powder and enjoy a couple more minutes with a cup of wonderful beverage in my hands.
I keep exploring new things I enjoy that give me energy and add them to that list. I think the magic is to often remind myself of these mostly simple things that I can actively experience throughout the day. The human mind is programmed for constant expansion and wanting to experience usually more, more, bigger, better. I try to outrick that psychological function by telling it: Thank you for your forward drive. I need that in some areas of life. In others I already found what I want and need. It’s often very simple. It gives me true pleasure. I have easy access and much choice. Every single day.

I found inspiration for the title mainly while hiking through the forest earlier this week. Half into the hike I saw seven or eight ants on the path in an interesting formation. I was curious, stopped, and simply observed the situation. One ant in the center, five around it, another three about ten inches further away. I was wondering what those five ants were doing. They were very close together, kind of in touch with each other. Took me a couple seconds to understand the ant in the middle was seriously injured. It was able to move one or two legs a little, but only slowly and it could not move forward. It was like glued to the floor. Maybe some bigger forest visitor trampled on it accidentally. I don’t know. The others were in touch with the injured. They seem to try to understand the situation. They felt each other through their antennae. They communicated. One very actively moved from left to right, turning around, spinning, without going anywhere. Maybe not knowing what to do, overreacting, or securing the parameter. I’m not a great biologist, that's what I saw.
I could see many parallels to other species on earth, including us humans. But the one I chose for this title is 'caring'. Not sure about all the things the ants were doing there. But they obviously seemed to care. Maybe for the individual, being a 911 task force, maybe simply to understand what happened. Either out of curiosity, or to truly understand the situation, the bigger picture, to potentially warn the rest of their community about a potential threat. Whatever it was, they stopped doing their routines. They didn't let the injured one lie there alone. They seemed to care.
Makes me think about what I care for.

We can also take it slowly, easily, and just enjoy being a part of all this, without much unnecessary action, following our inner voice, intuition, allowing items in our day that we enjoy, that make us feel good. A new day might be then a new chance to feel alive, to do your thing, to be the wonderful you, you're allowed to be.

I’ve been doing some reflection during the past two weeks. This time on the relaxdaily project itself. Today, exactly ten years ago, I started this music project by uploading the first relaxdaily tune (N°001) on this channel! Yes, it all began here on YouTube. Not me making music, but the relaxdaily part. Which is basically all I am as a musician today. The part before that was me preparing for the main thing without exactly knowing what that main thing would actually be (so you didn’t miss much ;).
Throughout the last year I thought I should celebrate this mark in a big way. Maybe with an album or so. Or some special piece of content. Because it’s 10 years after all. In the end this didn’t happen. The past year was not my strongest in body energy terms, and that’s OK, too. It was still a very good year. For this music journey. And for me as a person.
While reflecting I thought about how I started this project, what coincidences led to starting it on YouTube, what my thinking and expectations have been in the beginning, how I and the music changed throughout those ten years. I thought about elements that have been, and still are, surprisingly wonderful, which elements are less so, maybe even are potentially hurting. Through this I went further back in time. Ten years, or even 15 before I started relaxdaily. The time I already set course for my life with music, with actively playing and creating. I tried to recall what my motivation was back then, who my role models have been, what dreams I had, what sort of music I created, what sort came just naturally, and how this later changed and why. Stuff like that…
I also went through your comments again (you're so wonderful!), and also did a poll post on the current music formats on this channel.
I guess I’m a reflection type of person. Some are, some aren’t. Both is great. I believe, especially when there are layers that don’t really work or just feel bad, or have the potential to make us ill, that’s also a good time to do some reflection. But also such a reflection can make us understand things better. Projects, situations, relationships, our dreams, why we do what we do, even ourselves. To adjust, or simply to become aware and enjoy more.
