So, with much prayer and thought, I have decided to release what I have done on Exodus 7-12, kjv, so far. It is ~9mins, stretching the whole of chapter 7 and a part into chapter 8.
2D Version here if you prefer:
youtu.be/JI7E_kYSKdg
Let me first say, this is BY NO MEANS me quitting the project, lol, NO. When you're given an assignment, you have to finish it and finish it I will, by HIS grace, but, I have to be real and recognize that this will most likely take many more years, as I am working on this solo. If it only takes another 8 years to finish, it would already be a miracle, LOL, but again, I don't want to sit on the movie for the rest of my life and release something post-mortem that feels antiquated in technology and achievement and no one would care about. Today, releasing this part of a massive WIP is right.
About the 3D.
The 3D is a conversion from 2D+depth, which as you know, is not native to Blender, but I love how it turned out and that you enjoy it too. The tools for Blender is available for free from my website:
pantherdynamics.yolasite.com
Please consider watching on Rumble for ad revenue support, as YouTube takes everything. To support further, share, comment, like, or check out my CGtrader store:
cgtrader.com/designers/marius-oberholster
No obligation—just there for those interested.
This has, so far, been a massive labor of love and I hope to finish it before I'm 60, LOL. AI might help speed things up eventually!
Anyhow, here it is! Let me know what you thought and as always!
GOD bless you!! :D

I'd like to introduce you to your next period naval hero! Wanna set sail with this dude over here?! You can with two versions:
- He comes cleaned up, sporting a crisp uniform and hat fit for inspections and life aboard a true sailor's vessel.
- The second is a rough-and-tumble sea dog that's been marooned, complete with tattered clothes, worn boots, and a bandaged arm that can turn bloody wound with pre-animated keyframes.
CGTrader Link:
cgtrader.com/3d-models/character/man/for-anime-in-blender-duel-captain
Both versions are
- Fully rigged with MHX2 and additional controls
- Sport my signature NPR shaders
Making them ready to animate in Blender 3.6 or newer.
Highly posable and solid deformations helps this Captain's emotive qualities be ready to carry your story. Set to star in your maritime story - whether it's high-seas adventure, pirate's tale, or a naval battle or two, this guy is the real deal.
He sports:
- Both image and procedural textures,
- Texture outlines via UV and
- A post-processing setup already geared to colored outlines!
- Cape IK tail w shapekeys
- Wind controls on the rig's object properties
- Facial controls through a jaw bone and shapekeys
All of these allow a stunningly stylized look without too much geometry.
Add this dual-version Sea Captain to your creative arsenal! A true seafaring centerpiece for your animation, graphic novels and more!

We all love using closeups to create interesting shots - especially when we can get a cool texture or make it look like an alien world. It can even be used to create focus on a specific element, like time.
CGT Link:
cgtrader.com/3d-models/electronics/video/rgb-screen-filter-texture-level
So what is this exactly? Well!
- Texture setup to simulate RGB screen function.
- UV based and allows you to set the resolution of the screen.
- By default, it's set to HD (1920x1080) when appending.
- It stretches brightness like a screen would (clampable).
- Supports influence of the filter, to soften the look of it.
- Built with Eevee.
- Works with Cycles too.
This is a fun one! It can be used for any kind of RGB based screen - camera viewfinder, scope, outdoor displays, concert screens, cellphones, consoles, etc. You can use your imagination! :D
OOH, also, you can jump into the node and switch the mapping to View if you want to layer this on specific assets!

Less of a tutorial today and more of a sharing of experience. Most artists in a commercial setting understand the importance of stock and I wanted to bring that to the home setting, by sharing some insights from my own experience. Of course, these are not the only arguments for or against stock, but I hope it helps!
Again - none of the platforms or resources mentioned have sponsored or had any say in this video. Though I am very open to sponsorships, hehe.
Tip - on putting stock in windows, another application method would be like in the Spider verse where you use a depth offset technique. My only issue with it is that it doesn't rotate to the camera, so it's less convincing for outside spaces, but if that's the better use for your scene, please use it.

Volumetrics are always something of a pain and whenever we come face to face with simulations, we look for alternate solutions that are:
1) Fast!
2) Easy!
3) Looks great!
And that is where these steam stacks come in! Steam is a VERY common element in anime, because most slice of life shows and even shonen anime have food in and guess what is always there?!
---- Steam! ----
cgtrader.com/3d-models/food/miscellaneous/for-anime-in-blender-steam-columns
Included:
- 5 different steam stacks
- Demo scene with a small pot
- Particle system - Emitter & Bubbles (including Bubble shapes - shader is Eevee)
- Particle system - Emitter & Spatter (including point shape - shadeless white)
- Special wood texture and all other relevant materials for included objects
NOT included:
- Food pieces
- Hob
- Fire
- Compositing setup
So, make your life easier, with these preset stacks, both short and tall, not to mention simple and more complex. Just add to the scene, move to the pot/plate, scale to fit and that's it!
cgtrader.com/3d-models/food/miscellaneous/for-anime-in-blender-steam-columns
Designed for and in Eevee, they make use of backface culling and the shadeless group, however, the steam texture setups and their displacement, work 100% in cycles, so you can use them there too, with some minor tweaks to get the alpha just right and make it work in post.
Make your anime food life easier!

Such a long time coming, but so worth it! Propellers are a staple of battle anime and they rarely disappoint in how they handle this super fast element!
In this package for Eevee, we have a set of 4 different approaches to propellers that fit within the anime medium:
- Highly customizable smear
- Smooth advanced
- Smooth simple
- Line flicker
cgtrader.com/3d-models/aircraft/aircraft-part/for-anime-in-blender-propellers-eevee
Each of these allows you the customization of the lines that appear on your plane's blades. I specifically chose alpha hashed to blend these effectively and have them show up in the compositor.
Note: Planes and fans not included, but their base models are available on CGTrader.
Today we start with a new series around explosions! Whoohoo! :D
Anime battles and explosions are truly some areas where the medium comes into it's own and movies like The Wind Rises and Porco Rosso demonstrate this to a T. I also personally love SAO.
In this tutorial I do use my free seamless noise texture, which you can find here:

Overlay:
istockphoto.com/video/anime-shockwaves-overlay-gm1742239331-542857811
The idea is to go as follows:
1) Shockwave
2) Cloud
3) Nuclear
I don't know how exhaustive each of these will be, but I've wanted to make this series for a VERY long time and getting to do it is so cool! I hope you find these helpful and that you continue to like share and all those great things!
Have a great one!

In this video, I show you a quick fix for an anomaly with 3rd party models - double faces. My guess is its for double-sided faces and Blender puts in 2 - it's just weird, BUT, no longer do you have to spend excess time trying to solve it - here is the solution!
This code is the validation function. Somehow, this gets rid of the problem:
C.object.data.validate()
Stack Exchange where I learned this:
blender.stackexchange.com/questions/247369/remove-duplicate-faces-sharing-vertices
Have a super day!
This is a duo of effects:
- White shock
Whenever a character is extremely surprised, frightended suddenly or got really shocking news or defeated to an embarresing level, they turn all-white with funny eyes and expression.
- Goosebumps
Whenever a character gets a fright, they generally get a shock flow around the edges that looks like electricity waves. In this case - vertically set, but flows around the character's outer edge.
Included:
- For Anime White Shock
- For Anime Goosebumps
- Funny eyes and shader with shapekeys
- Demo scene with suzanne and the eyes all setup with outlines

This is an incredible addition to the already massive toolset I have been able to share with you guys!
NOTE: I have NOT tested it with Cycles, but all the features for this nodegroup's compositing requirements are supported, so it should be fine.
#anime #shock #white #stunned #surprise #goosebumps #freaked #shocked #comedic #serious #creativity
I just love the expressive nature of anime! For this free feature, we're doing some suggestion of motion! I've seen it a handful of times in various situations, but honestly, this one blew my mind when I finally noticed it. A lot of times we want motion, but we can't get it, because in relation to the camera, it's actually quite static - we therefore need environmental queues or visual language to help us understand what is going on.
Enter STATIC SPEED!
Free Download
CGTrader:
cgtrader.com/free-3d-models/scripts-plugins/rendering/for-anime-in-blender-static-speed
Blendswap:
blendswap.com/blend/30985
A VERY simple tool to help you say something quite significant!
Included:
- Animated Suzanne Demo file that also contains the nodegroup
(Lumberjack not included, but available - link below)
Instructions:
- Append the nodegroup for the compositor
- Make sure you understand how masking works
- You need the Normal Pass and Cryptomatte or ID mask
- No vector pass is used here
- Add - connect as per labels and boom - works!
Settings:
- Line Scale - Scales the texture that forms the lines
- Rotation - Allows you to change the angle of the lines as a whole
- Line Length - Stretches the line texture to create longer singular lines
- Influence - Follows a dissolve effect instead of a fade, so you can thin out the lines as they vanish, instead of just fading out.
I'm sure you're gonna love this one!!
I hope you guys get massive use out of this and don't forget to check out the Lumberjack if you're interested, hehe.

I've recently taken to texture creation with the release of the Spiral Staircase model - which needed textures it could be released with - so this pack encompasses those base materials you'd almost always encounter in archviz scenarios!
I introduce you to NPR textures with a PBR workflow!
cgtrader.com/3d-models/textures/architectural-textures/npr-texture-pack-vol-1
So, what's in the box:
- Concrete
- Concrete Smooth
- Redwood
- Pine
- Oak (light)
- Metal Powder Coat (Dark)
- All contain: Diffuse, Roughness and Normal JPEG maps at a resolution of 1024 x 1024
- BlendFile containing all the textures already applied to materials
I love that last part, because it allows you to simply append the material, saving yourself even more time!
I even added a little bit of customization to make them pop just that little bit more!
Let's face it, every second counts, especially at render time!
cgtrader.com/3d-models/textures/architectural-textures/npr-texture-pack-vol-1
I've absolutely adored creating these and I am super happy to finally get them out to you as well!!
Blessings!

I've always loved winding stair cases - whether spiral, like this one, or twin stairs that meet at the top - they are incredible to just look at! I'd like to think of them as functional art, which is where this result came from! It was generated using Archimesh and adjusted until you see what you have here.
cgtrader.com/3d-models/architectural/fixture/spiral-staircase-with-npr-textures
This staircase is a combination of metal, wood and concrete, with my own original textures, and demonstrated with some frames, using textures from textures.com. The tri-color approach makes these steps so classy and that hint of glass on the inside rail balusters, OH, LOVE IT!
So, what's in the box:
- Spiral staircase, as shown
- Joined landing blocks, just for reference
- 3 Tileable Textures that are for NPR, but have a PBR workflow:
- Concrete Smooth
- Redwood
- Metal Powder Coat
- All contain: Diffuse, Roughness and Normal JPEG maps at a resolution of 1024 x 1024
This is such a labor of love and such a focal point that would look incredible no matter where you put it! And the best part is that it's tall enough for you to use with almost any shot! Most steps are actually a turn or so shorter.
Great uses would be for a central stair case in a large home, central in a library, or retextured for other more domestic shots. Since you get the material slots and it's already unwrapped (some projection mapping), you can pretty easily and quickly pop in whatever material/look you want - even uniting the current 3-part materials to 1 or 2.
Regardless of how you use it - or break it for an apocalyptic scene - it is an incredible asset to say the least.
I consider this to be a medium to low-poly model, but check the count to make sure it's perfect for your project!
NOTE: Blender's Principled BSDF shader is not compatible amongst all formats - use the textures or your own to get the materials that are perfect for your project! HDRi not included.
Have a great one!

As you all know, I love NPR! This texture set, though having the same basic components as a PBR material, is not intended for that use at all; it's for a more anime style background.
I created this texture for a typical stone wall you could find in pretty much any country, but this one was created with Spain in mind. They have such warm earthy colors to most of their building materials! It's stunning!
CGT Link:
cgtrader.com/3d-models/textures/architectural-textures/for-anime-npr-rock-wall
Included:
- Diffuse Color (1920 x 1080)
- Bump/Height (1920 x 1080)
- Roughness (1920 x 1080)
- Normal (1920 x 1080)
As an added value, I also included an updated version of the procedural texture the images textures were derived from! This is unfortunately Blender Only, but VERY cool!
To really illustrate the textures' effectiveness, most parts of the demo videos were done using Parallax Occlusion Mapping, by Anton Neveselov.
YouTube channel here:
youtube.com/c/Neveselov/featured
The procedural texture was built in Eevee and the render is set for that, but it should have no problem in Cycles.

What is in the box:
- Side smear
A lot of these older systems and compositeRGB setups had a tendency to smear everything to the right of the screen - very important to sell the look! You get two controls for this one - smear influence and smear strength. The first is how strong the effect is visually, and the latter is how long the smear will be. Leaving it at 20 should suffice - if anything, influence will be the control you would be likely to adjust.
- Rainbow comb
Fine details and high contrast got this rainbow running over it - my guess is it was frequency noise, since high detail or high contrast is high frequency ito picture waves. These got filtered out with the redesign of the composite system, but is still present in various forms of cheaper hardware for things like HD to RCA, for example.
- Soft Grain and frame movement
A lot of anime (and TV programs in general) have traditionally been archived on film. This means some film artifacts are to be expected. These are less obvious at TV resolution (PAL or NTSC), so they are subtle here too. The frame movement is also rather slow, so as not to be distracting.
- Chromatic Aberration
Not a huge fan of this and it's fairly rare to have it break up like water or lenses do (if ever, you know that RGB rainbow edge, not the comb), so I tried to have a morphed version of it, to just kinda fuzzy up the color layers a bit.
- Off-Black
If your TV was tuned like mine, for easy-watching, your blacks would never have been at 0, but somewhere around 0.01 (in blender values), so I added a little bit of brightness to lift the black level a bit.
- Hue Offset
This did not affect everything, let's be honest, but many older shows had this slight yellowing vibe, especially the ones saved on VHS and later converted to digital. In Blender, the hue offset is VERY sensitive, so this setting has been adjusted, but even with some testing, I turned it down even more. So we're looking at around a hundredth of a blender unit's worth of adjustment max! To make it easier for you, I boiled it down to a max of 2 (yellow) and minimum of -2 (redder). Please compare to the original footage as you adjust this one! It's VERY subtle for a reason!
This is an emphasis and story tool and quite a cool one at that! Heck, it's even useful for non-anime stuff! Use it on whatever you think it'll be useful! I just designed it specifically for a vintage look for your anime cartoons or elements in them.
Uses:
- Archival footage in-show
- Creating an entire show that is supposed to look a bit old, like the rubber-hose animation style for example.
- Nostalgia driven music videos or doccies
- Just adding some old-vibes to pictures or family movies for a project
- This can be useful for doing a show on older games or older setups, and if you can't find footage or have the equipment to make it, this can at least create an idea of what it looked like.
Have an awesome day!

This trailer is not real - at least not yet! I loved this so much that I am already considering writing a story based on the idea demonstrated in the video! Abstract concepts are soooo fun!!!
So why? Well, as you guys know, I focus on NPR - it's my jam and I absolutely love it! BUT, I don't just do work for myself and I have been asked on more than one occasion if I have examples of other work and I always stand there with a foot in my mouth, lol. So, YES, now I do have an example of work that is much more PBR! HAHAHA!
I LOVED working on this and it took me two days, spread over more than 10 years, lol. The actual production was about 2 days, but the study scene is an old set from a movie I still want to finish after Exodus - I don't want to announce the next while the previous is still undone, so, it's quiet for now, lol. All I can say is I started work on it before Exodus, so it has a screenplay and a lot of modeling finished.
So, I hope you guys absolutely loved it as much as I do and who knows, maybe this'll find it's way to a full feature or series! I'm hoping for sure!!
Have a great one!!

After the incredible look of Esther 6's 5 branch candelabra, I did this one for a tutorial on candle flames for Blender Render. It's a much more traditional and 1600's European kinda vibe! Around this time, I was doing a lot of experimenting with different techniques for anime-style fire, and a rigged candle-flame as a logical next step and this was just a perfect tool for the job! Tutorial also linked!
CGT Link:
cgtrader.com/3d-models/interior/house-interior/3-branch-candelabra
Tutorial:
youtube.com/watch?v=ycVG8Lv-p0I
Included:
Three candelabras:
1) Subdivided
2) Creased for subdivision
3) Lower poly version
Three animated candle flames, controlled with displacement (keeps each flame different and moving at the same speed)
IK control for each flame, so you can animate a drag easily.
Table (procedural texture) and wall for decoration
All materials are Principled BSDF based, to make it as easy as possible to add it to your particular project/style
Candle run-off is added in a simple way to make it easily removable, yet still blend nicely with SSS, so that if you want to customize this for a more intense candle look.
ALL materials Cycles compatible.
Static version of the subdivided and unsubdivided model available in other formats. FBX contains the rig with baked in static displacement - other formats are a courtesy - Blender's exporters have varied success.
This is perfect for scene decor for both period pieces, classical architecture or just adding a little chrome to a modern design!

An underestimated classic, this one can be much more flexible! Additional usage comes down to impact shots for shiney objects (like a Sherif badge) as well as shiney background objects (like a shield in a storeroom). Also ideal for fancy dinner sets, camping equipment, etc.
You might say, but it's brown and blue, it won't make sense, but guess what! I added hue controls so you can use these in whatever color environment you prefer.
Not only that, I also did a toon version that allows you to use this on toon objects, like cars or bikes, or anything else that is highly chromed. AND, if you want to mix it with real reflections, that option is there too!
Included:
- Desert Chrome - Objects
- Toon Chrome
MAJOR DESIGN:
Both Toon- and Desert Chrome have separate normals for the real reflections and for the chrome effect. This is to allow wavy lines, without warping your reflections! Or, if you're happy with the material itself, only warp the reflections.
If you're looking for more metal options in anime, then you can check out my Metal Shader that also has strong chrome elements:
cgtrader.com/3d-models/scripts-plugins/rendering/for-anime-in-blender-metal-shader
And my Shine shader for that extra pop:
cgtrader.com/3d-models/scripts-plugins/rendering/for-anime-in-blender-shine-shader
Be sure to check out the preview videos!! :D
Usage:
- Simply append the material and attach to your objects.
- They are not tied to any specific objects (aside from the active camera), but instead, tied to the glossy shader's results. They will work with whatever shape is there.

This Blend contains a range of objects that allows you to put fake light beams into your shots, to save on render time and on time itself.
I use this technique, because Eevee only supports screen space effects, the compositor can't pin-point lights from outside of the view and volumes mean more samples, making this a stable, traditional and very fast solution that should fit your project for a lot of situations.

Fine Beams:
The main point in sharing this technique is that you can have a cascade of light beams using particles (or geonodes) and this allows for some really pretty shots, like the above.
I've made it shadow sensitive, because sometimes that makes something even more beautiful.
Shadow sensitive here refers to being able to have objects pass through the beams and cut them off - note that this will only work if your light source (ie a sun lamp) is pointing in exactly the same direction as the beams.
*Operation:
- Most of the controls are handled by the particle system - size, random size, amount, etc.
Orientation of the beams are done with the beam particle itself:
- 1) Rotation along the X-axis (R, X) is equal to the global z and changes the direction the beams point in - NSEW.
- 2) Rotation along the Z-axis (R, Z) changes the angle of the beams (steaper or shallower) - vertical degrees.
- Shapekey to scale thickness of the particle beam.
Massive beams:
I added an additional type of beam and that is the kind that comes through a hole in the roof of a cave. This one is a bit harder to apply when it is shadow sensitive, but I advise going for the vertical beam approach, since this is the most common and generally, the most epic, imo.
Also shadow sensitive and I also recommend you make sure that the sun points directly down (default rotation for the sun lamp).
*Operation:
- It has two empties,
1) Displacement (attached to the beam)
Allows you to shape the beam however you want and have it be stable as you move it to it's perfect spot.
2) Turbulence (loose from the beam)
Allows all the turbulence in all the beams to be consistent and animated.
- It contains shape keys to alter the appearance of the beam, but use with caution as with displacement it can alter the ray-flow of the light and look strange. Use with care!
I suggest using the beam shape to cut the hole in the roof, since it's easier to match and the beams, by design, are for vertical use. The top bright part fills the hole with light.
NOTE:
- EEVEE Only (includes my NPR Shaders v2.0)
- Contact Shadows are crucial for shadow cut-off.
- Both beams' emission value is set to 1, but if you find that it's not bright enough, don't be afraid to up the value.
- Sun lamp in the shot configured for each of the beams.
- Alpha Blend does have some known issues with drawing order and is invisible to the compositor (cryptomatte, material index, object index, etc.).
- Particle placement can be unpredictable, but using particle seed allows you to vary your results until you get something you like.
I hope you guys love this and that you can make great use of it!!!

Two of the most difficult things to create in CG: Snow and Clouds. Today, we have snow! With post snow, you can add your blizzard to your still or to taking it further, you can put it on your final animations!
cgtrader.com/3d-models/scripts-plugins/rendering/for-anime-in-blender-post-snow
What makes this an incredible tool, is how quickly you can have it finished! I LOVE the snowflakes in this package the most! It is so cool! The mist effect too, because it's so versatile!
AND, it responds to shadows, because the shadow pass is paramount to the successful placement of snow in your shots! Just see the video!
Built with Eevee - should work with Cycles too - same passes.
What is included:
- Snow - Coverage
- Snow - Mist
- Snow - Flakes
Coverage:
- Image
- Depth
- Normal Pass
- Shadow Pass
- Exclusion Mask (black masks)
This is an essential mask, because it allows you to remove areas from your snow coverage in whatever way you see fit. Personally, I use a trick with a second viewlayer that only has a shadow pass. This allows me to "cast a path" for the snow to be and not to be. This is why it masks the dark out, not the white.
- Snow Coverage
By default, it's set on 0.2, because a good coat of snow is roughly this broad and it doesn't leave everything buried, giving you a nice contrast between physical shapes and the snow that covers them.
- Snow Sharpness
Control to taste. Off by default, it allows for the thickest feel of snow. Shaper you go, the less expansion gets built into the snow and the more detail comes through in the shape of the snow's coverage. Turning it up all the way to 1 is ideal for objects with more detail, where you want the snow to have more detail - note this only affects the snow coverage and silhouette, not the "material".
- Snow Base Color
Think of this as the diffuse
- Snow Shadow Color
Colored Shadow Pass
- Outline Adjustment
A small erosion of the snow's shape to compensate for outlines it tends to cross, since outlines are not part of the depth maps and so on.
Mist
- Image
- Depth
- Exclusion Mask (white masks)
- Layer 1 - Closest
- Layer 2
- Layer 3
- Layer 4 - Farthest
- Texture Scale
- Relative Scale (Between Layers)
- X - Scale
Scale the overall texture along the X-axis
- Y - Scale
Scale the overall texture along the X-axis
- X - Animation Speed
Works with multiply, so you can reverse it by going into the negative values.
- Y - Animation Speed
Works with multiply, so you can reverse it by going into the negative values.
- Z - Animation Speed
Works with multiply, so you can reverse it by going into the negative values. Z's purpose is morphing.
- Relative Animation Offset
Animation control for the whole, but also controls relatively, thus the strange name.
Flakes:
- Image
- Depth
- Exclusion mask (white masks)
Think of making sure the snow is only outside.
- Snowflake Size
Local to each flake, not the layer.
- Texture Scale
- Layer 1 - Closest
- Layer 2
- Layer 3
- Layer 4 - Farthest
- Animation Speed
Animation speed of the whole.
- X - Animation
Animation along the X-axis - can also be reversed through negative values.
- Y - Animation
Animation along the Y-axis - can also be reversed through negative values.
- Relative scale
Scale difference between layers.
An incredible toolset and I absolutely loved working on it!! I can see this being very handy down the line for even my own projects in snowy locations!
NOTE: Cabin scene not included - purely for demonstration purposes.
Get out there and cover your scenes in fresh powder!

Anime has these few things that are shaded like a movie and gem stones or precious metals are just two.
In this package, I have 4 different Eevee Gem Shader styles in 2 different flavors:
- Noise (Red)
- Voronoi (Green)
- Glitter (Yellow)
- Sparks (Blue)
cgtrader.com/3d-models/scripts-plugins/rendering/for-anime-in-blender-gems-shaders
All of the above have a smooth and a toon version. Both share the same specularity, but like all my node groups, you can always go in and make it softer if that is what your project requires.
Included:
- Pendent Model (excluding metal shader - linked below)
- All 8 pendent materials (smooth and toon)
- Animated demo scene
I designed them to be alive when moving and when the camera is moving, just like those hologram stickers and pendants - no move is made without some kind of motion. I did dampen it a lot with object coordinates, and because of that, I added additional textural controls for you guys: location, rotation and scale in case you need a little extra!
AND!
Because I know red green, yellow and blue are not the only colors in existence, I also added the HSV node to enable you to adjust the colors to get different combinations. Of course, again, the nodegroup is open to customization on the inside.
Note: Everything is minimized, except where color is concerned, so it will help you locate yourself rather quickly. Frames are also labeled to help you understand what each section does.
Controls:
- Hue
Set at it's default, 0.5 is the colors I set inside the nodegroup. Take it slow as you page through then feel free to dive into the group and customize.
- Saturation
Follows blender's saturation model.
- Value
Adjusts the value component
- Roughness
This allows you some control from the outside, as to the size of the main specularity. The other specular spots are a reflection texture nodegroup inside - also setup for easy customization.
- Location (XYZ)
- Rotation (XYZ)
- Scale (XYZ)
Major tip!
If you want to add these to a brooch or pendent like I did on the heart, make sure that your object's Z-axis is facing away from the object's front surface. This will allow the default mapping to stick the way it's designed to and you won't have to mess with the other controls in most cases (the hearts needed no adjustment, for example) - not even on a Suzanne head.
Now get out there and making something memorable!! :D

Anime has a treasure trove of tropes and I'd love to share one with you guys! This has never come up in my projects, but I thought it would be a fun one to build and share with you, so here it is!
cgtrader.com/free-3d-models/scripts-plugins/rendering/for-anime-in-blender-glowing-glasses
GLOWING GLASSES!!! ooooh! hehe.
Such a fav of mine - when a character is acting cool, thinks they are cool or are acting mysteriously - so clever to hide the eyes! In Kuroku's basketball, they also used this as a means to reveal the eyes, if memory serves. VERY clever use of visual language!
Hope you love it! I made it quite custom to give you all the controls you would need - even adding a streak blur that is purely horizontal (off by default, since it doesn't show up that way in anime - as far as I've seen at least).
Features:
- Image
Regular render input
- Glasses Mask
Literally the object you want to be glowed
- Glow Color
Allows you to colorize the glow you get. I've seen some orange glasses too, so this will facilitate that.
- Glow Intensity
VERY important for clarity. By default it's set quite high.
- Lens Blur Size
Sometimes the lenses can use some blurring of their own just to soften their harsh outline a bit. Very low setting by default.
- Horizontal Streaks Intensity
Usually set to 0, because it's not really used in anime per-say, but I saw people who made their real-life version of the glasses loved adding this kind of streak glow, so I added it too.
As far as usage goes - don't limit yourself to just glowing glasses. Fireflies and other forms of light, like bulbs, can also be glowed like this. Or things that give off lots of energy and light, like white explosions. Be creative and let your mind run with it!
Have a great one!!
Blessings!

This is a highlight feature that is often used in small amounts and to great effect. When your character strikes that pose in their brand new suit - SHING! lol.
cgtrader.com/3d-models/scripts-plugins/rendering/for-anime-in-blender-shine-shader
I made it at shader level, because it is rare that it's over everything and this way, you have better local control of where you want it and where you don't. It's also a lot faster, more flexible, easier to animate and higher quality that way.
Works in Cycles and Eevee!
NOTE:
- Anime Metal Shader not included (not Cycles compatible)
Was needed to demonstrate it properly.
- Included material is visible at the end. This shader works extremely well in Eevee and Cycles and supports a texture output, as demonstrated in the video, that you can use in various creative ways. Think even video transitions!
- Compositing is easy! Just load values over 1 and it should isolate quite well! If you have other objects above 1, then mask first without clamping and blur and add.
Included:
- Shine Shader on a gold-like material in a turntable scene; Cycles
Shine Shader
- Bands Threshold
This is what you animated to bring it in and take it out again. Going between 0 and 1 is solid. If you want to do video transitions using shapes, go for 2 to fill out the shape completely.
- Bands Rotation
Rotates all axes at the same time - very effective!
- Texture Scale
Scales the bands
- Animation Offset
This helps if you don't like how the bands start or end and lets you shift the animation backwards or forwards for different bands.
- Animation Speed Control
Multiplication based, so you can go faster or even reverse for a different direction! Great suggestion - always shine shader against the motion of the shape if it's moving - looks incredible! If it has stopped - you can follow the direction it followed to compliment it's pose.
- Brightness (Texture and Emission)
This setting is what makes it pop in the compositor. By default, it's set to 2 - it's not often, except for other lights, that you'd have values that go that high. Other lights and explosions would be the common exceptions, but then you can mask first, as mentioned.
Outputs:
- Emission
This is an emission shader output for you to simply add it to whatever you already have. This is at the top, because it's what you would do in most cases.
- Texture
If you need it to be more subtle and simply illustrate the material is shiny, then you can include it as part of your textures and colors. Adjust brightness as needed for this though!
So excited about this and it looks incredible! It also demonstrates how much effects can depend on their material counterparts, so make sure you get that right as well!
You can use my metal shader or use any NPR metal you can find that really pops!

Metal in anime is an enigma. It took me sooo long to find a solution and when I got it, I stopped short of ordering pizza, LOL! Now, I get to share it with you guys!
cgtrader.com/3d-models/scripts-plugins/rendering/for-anime-in-blender-metal-shader
Simply put, this shader is deeply based in the reflective nature of metal and shape, despite not looking reflective - this does mean it's Eevee only - Shader to RGB.
You can:
- Control the size of the specularity and it's opacity.
- Control the size of the diffuse and it's opacity.
- Control the size of the sheen diffuse mask and it's opacity over the material.
- Control reflection bands scale and opacity.
- Control true reflection opacity.
- The size of the reflection barriers on the inside and outside of the shape's silhouette.
- Fresnel sizes (forms masks and additional reflective behavior).
- Normal maps are supported - image - normal map node - shader.
- Additional Darkening controls for low-light scenes. This is to help with world light and other issues.
Included:
- Metal Shader + Turntable with Suzanne
Metal Shader
- Color
Texture/Color input
- Sheen Diffuse Size
Sheen refers to the fresnel elements that give the material extra bling. The sheen is limited by a diffuse mask and this controls the size of that mask.
- Sheen Diffuse Opacity
Sheen Diffuse mask opacity
- Final Diffuse Size
Functions like any hard toon diffuse
- Final Diffuse Opacity
Determines the darkness of the darker side of the diffuse
- Dark Spec Size
Dark spec refers to the black underside of the material - this is based on dark reflections that give highly reflective materials their signature look, simplified! This control scales the size of the values included.
- Dark Spec Mask Outer (Fresnel)
The Dark Spec Size above is masked by this and the next with Fresnel borders, to create that signature cutoff black section.
- Dark Spec Mask Inner (Fresnel)
- Dark Spec Opacity
This gives you the option to have that black or not have it. Personally, it should stay there, regardless.
- Spec Size
Typical specularity and it's size
- Spec Opacity
Typical Specularity and it's opacity
- Reflection Bands Opacity
A personal stylistic favorite, but I know not always appropriate, so you can turn it off here.
- Reflection Bands Texture Scale
Self-explanatory
- Reflection Opacity
True reflection opacity masked with Fresnel edges to maintain some of the metal shader.
- Normal
Normal Map input
- Normal Influence - Reflection Bands
Sometimes they should get influenced, and sometimes they should not. This gives you that option.
- Additional Black Influence (Diffused Based)
When a scene gets too dark, the material can respond to an above 0 level of brightness - ie, still visible. This, as well as the Final Diffuse Opacity and other controls, will help make it dark if it doesn't go dark enough.
This is fantastic for various uses - not just robots! It'll work on ornaments and other more organic shapes as well! I tested it with quite the variety as you can see!
Save yourself the hassle! It's done and dusted!
GOD bless you!

Another classic, we have rain! In Anime and other older cartoons, it's rare to have fully animated scenes with integrated rain. It's also a nightmare with particles - even with dynamic paint. BUT with a post processing tool, you can pretty much have your cake and eat it too!
cgtrader.com/3d-models/scripts-plugins/rendering/for-anime-in-blender-rain-tools
So how does this work?
The Rain Mist group uses primarily the global normals to tell which way is up, because rain comes down. So all of the visible upward facing surfaces get rain mist over 5 depth based layers. This is where the exclusion mask comes in. Often you'd have characters or objects under shelter in pouring rain, so what do you need? Masking to prevent it raining under surfaces!
When there is rain and it's under solid cloud cover, the sunlight is effectively from directly above - this allows you to use the sun lamp with the shadow pass as an exclusion mask, like in the demo scene.
Just remember that this mask excludes, so you need to invert your shadow pass!
The rain drops themselves consist of 3 layers, each has individual opacity control and global opacity. I included a perspective slider for when characters are looking up - demo video. It's only limited to one point of perspective (middle top), but does bend the rain when you rotate the overall angle and turn it up - VERY cool effect!
You simply animate these groups together!
The way Blender's compositor works, makes this a breeze! Follow the camera keyframes in the viewport with the compositor open to animate the rotation, for example, and then just add in-between keyframes and boom, done with the rain rotation.
For the mist, you just animate your coverage and breakup. The defaults are pretty solid, so you should be good in most instances.

Moving windows (like on cars) have always been somewhat active in anime, but not so much building windows - they're kinda stuck most of the time, from what I've seen, but I'd love for you to have something a little bit more interesting and alive!
To do this, I have created two shaders specifically aimed at various types of building windows, with a lot of control over the elements as well as what they contain!
cgtrader.com/3d-models/scripts-plugins/texturing/for-anime-in-blender-window-shaders-eevee-and-cycles
AND! Works in Eevee and Cycles!! The shadow response is just more accurate!
Included:
- A small demo scene
- For Anime - Windows Advanced
- For Anime - Windows Simple
Both of these have VERY similar skillset, except that, the advanced has much more control and you can have multiple window panels per material, so let's get into the detail of both!
Material Requirements for Eevee:
- Blend Method - Hashed
- Shadow Method - Hashed
Material Requirements for Cycles:
- Plug n play - Just switched to Cycles.
Advanced:
- Color 1-4 (UV required)
These colors represent the environment reflected. If you'd prefer an image, just connect the same image to all 4 colors and boom, image!
- Overall Saturation
Controls the saturation of the result before it goes into the shaders themselves for final mixing.
- Scale Bands XYZ
These controls, handle the scale for the reflections bands (the white lines going diagonal across the windows. Smaller = more detail and Larger = less detail. I added this in this manner, so that if you have something at an angle and you'd prefer a little more angle to the diagonal, this will help you get it. Because it "reflects" from the camera, you cannot simply rotate it with a single control - especially not since it's so dynamic.
- Reflectivity
Fades between reflectivity (like SSR) and the color choices.
- Bands w reflectivity
When you turn on reflectivity, you might not want the bands visible and this allows you to have that option. I set it up, so that with reflecivity on, you don't get bands at all with transparency. This is consistent with general creative choices in anime with reflections.
- Window Fringe
Around the edges of windows, especially in wintery scenes or old buildings, you find a white frame/fringe around the edges of the panels. This allows you to have a suggestion of it or remove it. Works in transparency and with full opacity and with reflections.
- Nr of Windows H and V (UV required)
These controls do exactly that! They allow you to simply type in how many windows you want horizontally (H) and Vertically (V).
- Unify Reflection bands
By default this option is off. The window shader uses a texture that allows for at least two sets of bands to exist and this slider turns that texture on or off, allowing you to have the whole window respond as one (to the bands) or to respond as individual panels.
- Window Transparency
Does exactly what it says - activates the window's transparency.
- Diffuse / Emission
Allows you to choose how much your environment will affect your windows. Believe it or not, aside from the reflective nature of windows and glass, it does have a diffuse side!
- Fringe in shadow
One of my fav aspects of this shader is the incredible control over the shadows! UNHEARD OF!!! This allows you to have the fringe in the shadow if you want it there or not. I recommend leaving it there.
- Shadow intensity
Exactly what it says.
Outputs:
- Shader
- Reflection Bands
- Fringe
- Gradient Texture
-------
Now, let's look at the simple one!
Simple:
- Color 1-3 (UV required)
- Scale Bands XYZ
- Window Fringe
- Window Transparency
- Diffuse / Emission
- Fringe in shadow
- Shadow intensity
- Bands Offset
An additional control that has no purpose in the advances shader, this setting allows you to use the same shader on different individual panels, but not have the bands be identical. If you simply offset them a bit, you'll have a unique look to each panel, despite this simplified one generating only for a single panel.
- Shader Output

This is a fantastic addition to the For Anime toolbox and I'm super ecstatic to share it with you guys! :D
To use:
- Append the node group using File - Append - Downloaded file - Nodetree - For Anime - Windows Advanced and/or Simple.
- Find in the shader window under Add - Groups - For Anime - Windows Advanced and/or Simple.
- Connect it to the surface - wait for it to load and set your alpha and shadows both to hashed.
- Hashed is a sampled based method, so it does require a lot of samples, but I only used 30 and paired it with the denoise node for the demo video. That should be enough, imo.

In the world of anime, there are a lot of elements that come from real life, that just got a bit of a twist for artistic expression, so to speak. One of them is a sun glare. Usually, on camera, you only get a sun glare when the sun is actually in the frame or you see the lens when you have something really bright off-camera. Truly, I don't know where this one started, but I love it!
To demonstrate it's a bright and sunny day, you often see some rays flowing on the screen over objects, without the actual light source in the shot - ie, Offscreen sun glare!
cgtrader.com/3d-models/scripts-plugins/rendering/for-anime-in-blender-offscreen-sun-glare
I've added as much control to this as I felt is good without going overboard, but as usual, with these nodegroups, it's a matter of going into them and adjusting to your heart's content! hehe.
Features and what they do:
- Ray thickness - white and color
Works as a mask/threshold. The higher, the more of white or color is shown, the less, the less is shown. It has a pretty non-linear seaming fall-off, so adjust in small increments from the default 50 - like 5 or so at a time up or down.
- Ray texture scale - white and color
This is like how many individual strands do you wanna see. The higher the number, the more per surface area.
- Band offset/Scale - white and color
Radial placement (from the origin) of the white or the color lines
It's labeled as scale and offset, because it really is both. The area gets thicker as the distance from the origin increases.
- Sharpness - white and color
Filter, Filter - Sharpness as applied to white or color
- Scale Color
Operates similar to modulo, but the higher the value, the less color bands, the lower, the more.
- Translate X and Y
0 center, 1 right-top, -1 left-bottom.
- Add factor
How intensely the glare gets added to the image - usually 1 is good enough, but you can up it passed 1 if you feel you want more addition.
- Overlay factor
To really make it stand out and blend, overlay is used to affect the colors behind the glare
- Overlay Blur Size
Overlay usually requires a blur to spread out and create the gradual influence - this is that blur size. If set to 0, you simply have the same pattern added and overlaid.
- Post Blur
Blurs the final glare result (not the overlay blur - just the sharp version).
- Animation speed control
This allows you to slow it down or stop it until the camera actually moves - remember this works with multiply, so if you want to animate it back to 0, I recommend just slowing it to just above 0, so it doesn't pop back to the starting position.
- Glare only Output
Allows for much quicker manipulation and animation, but is also useful for exporting so you can add it to games or other projects as a post-effect.
This is a fantastic addition to the For Anime toolbox and I'm super ecstatic to share it with you guys! :D
To use:
- Append the node group using File - Append - Downloaded file - Nodetree - For Anime - Offscreen Sun Glare.
- Find in the compositor under Add - Groups - For Anime - Offscreen Sun Glare.
- Pop it in at the end of the compositing tree.
- Note that you may want to first animate it with the image input only - having a whole nodetree to process every time can be very time consuming.

I've done many tutorials over the years and have gotten a few requests for the tutorial result file, so, I've finally gotten to make it available.
CGT Link:
cgtrader.com/3d-models/science/other/for-anime-in-blender-electricity
Electricity has always looked so cool in anime, because it always flows slower and is more impactful! It's often used as a form of visual language as well as a physical phenomenon or show of power. That classic static flicker is my fac part of it!!
With this tutorial, I took a few liberties to make it my own and one of those is spark waves that fly out and quickly dissipate. Incredible!
The tutorial: youtube.com/watch?v=NBM1ApNCNiw
Included:
- Tutorial - Blender Render, 2.77a
- Tutorial - Eevee, 2.93.8
If you came from the video, you know exactly what to expect from the Blender Render file, but the eevee one contains a few extras:
- Higher quality result!
- Action lines locked to suzanne, so no matter where in the scene you are, it makes her the origin.
- Better UV setup than the tutorial
- Static flicker
- Contact lamp moves and flickers more violently
- Camera shake
- Same particle system.
- Outlines on Suzanne
- Dust swirl
- Larger floor plane for the camera move
- Different bolt offset
- Complete redo of the compositing setup
I just know you're gonna dig into this with enthusiasm and love what you get out of it!!

What a result this was and I'm very proud of this tutorial! The Eevee update was, as usual, an improvement!
The tutorial youtube.com/watch?v=yxgyN7RATJ4
When I hit the compositor to run, the result was not pleasing - it ended up that the passes are not affected by the refraction and things in the same way, BUT, I can say this - it certainly did NOT make for a bad result - I was still able to use the same methods, but just in Eevee AND also get a better result!
Included:
The tutorial result file - Blender Render, 2.77a
The tutorial result update - Eevee update - 2.93
If you came from the video, you know exactly what to expect from the Blender Render file, but the eevee one contains a few extras:
- Subtractive caustics using the same texture as for the water animation
- Hashed shadows for smooth shading
- Clearer distinction between under water and above water
- Z-pass based over mist-pass based depth influence
- Some camera animation and smoother shadows
- Simplified toon shading for speed
- Reduced blue influence to give the water more clarity
If you were curious how to transfer this to Eevee, this update will blow your mind at how easy it really is and how fantastic the results are! :D

cgtrader.com/3d-models/exterior/landscape/for-anime-in-blender-water-reflections
Water is an interesting topic and has enjoyed many a tutorial at my hand, hehe! It's the final frontier - after normals, after rocks, after parallax occlusion mapping,... yeah it's up there okay, LOL!
The tutorial youtube.com/watch?v=8-QyCsWwPa8
The reflections tutorial was a hit, because in Blender Render, you could control the distance that the reflection should function at - this was to speed up reflection render times, because oh did they ever slow down renders. Eevee uses two techniques - limited probe and screen space reflections. Both are incredible, neither allow for controlled distance.
SO, instead, for the update, I focussed on producing a result that is similar to anime art and to lean it more to the 2D side, I added some bonus elements!
Included:
The tutorial result file - Blender Render, 2.77a
The tutorial result update - Eevee update - 2.93
Bonus elements on Eevee version:
- Simple toon materials
- Additional outlining of the bridge for a more painted feel
- Foam circles on all the legs where they make contact with the water
- A little bit of foam on the water surface
- Reflection probe to increase reflection quality
- Nicely finished world with clouds
- Overall, a much better result!
If you were curious how to transfer this to Eevee, this update will blow your mind at how similar it really is! :D

In Anime, this lack of technology, or man-power, back in the day, led to some very interesting methods for dealing with complex situations. With some clever tinkering, you can use these even in 3D to save you hours of render time!
Enter the Post Tree Shade nodegroups!
cgtrader.com/3d-models/scripts-plugins/rendering/for-anime-in-blender-tree-shade
This set allows you to have shadeless trees in a shot, that run with particles, and add the shadow over whatever you want shaded, afterwards, in the compositor!
They are noise texture and voronoi texture based options, already animated to morph slowly, that gives you all you need to do for great results! Just give it the shadow pass, direction and a mask and you're set!
This tool allows you to use all manner of found footage without messy integration - make sure you save yourself the time! :D
Features:
- Not engine specific - works in Cycles and Eevee
- Built with Eevee and contains my special NPR shaders where applicable
- Noise texture based - Voronoi texture based (2 node groups)
- Threshold control for shadow coverage
- X and Y axis controls for offset animation
- Option to use the shadow pass to prevent/reduce double shadowing
- Morph Speed Control allows you to control the pace at which the shadows change shape
- Quick Blur controls for a softening effect of the whole image
- Bright spot influence control for the masked objects with the new shadows added
BY FAR one of the coolest tools in the box and I hope it'll be one of your favs too!!
Note:
- Direction for the shadows has to be animated - only the morphing is already animated.
- Lumberjack not included - he's one of my demo models - hopefully soon to be loaded too. ;)
Anime shines in it's rich visual language. In so many ways, it adds comedic elements and emphasizes the emotions we see in the characters. Anime would truly be lost without these.
This post processing tool gives you, what I like to call, vibes. I've seen this many times in the form of an aura - which is quite clever, since it plays on something we see, but can't physically see - how people are feeling. Sometimes we can pick it up without it showing outside, but this demonstrates it for us on-screen!
cgtrader.com/3d-models/scripts-plugins/rendering/for-anime-in-blender-vibes
The purple usually refers to a controlled rage, or spite, as well as envy or disghust. It can also be used to show a character smells (good - gold or pink; or bad - green or dark brown), is a ghost or again, emphasizing emotion. I've seen sickness in one of Jaiden Animations' videos shown with blue - haha!
For this one, I set it up with a set of really cool features and I think you're gonna love it all!
- Toon vs Soft vibes
- Offset control to make animating trailing an option
- Scale control for the noise texture used for the effect
- Animated!!
- Saturation control for the soft vibes (toon uses the straight color, since it's more straight forward in it's finish)
- Foreground masking to remove any excessive bluring where it doesn't make sense
This is a fantastic addition to the For Anime toolbox and I'm super ecstatic to share it with you guys! :D
