This is an AU idea I had.
Regina decides to disguise herself as a peasant in order to find Snow White, but one day is attacked by one of her guards who doesn't recognize her. She is rescued by a mysterious blonde woman, the outlaw Emma Swan. Regina then runs off in annoyance at being rescued. A few days later, Regina meets Emma again in a tavern, where they introduce themselves to each other and talk and hang out. They quickly become fast friends and start spending more and more time together until eventually they fall in love. But shortly after that, Emma sneaks into a ball to steal from the king, when she sees Regina come in. She is shocked to learn who Regina really is. Emma confronts Regina, and embarrasses her in front of the king and other guests, so in order to keep up appearances, Regina has her guards take Emma into custody. Back at the Dark Palace, Regina tries to explain things to Emma and begs her to forgive her, but Emma won't and tells her she could never love the Evil Queen. Hurt and betrayed, Regina locks Emma away in her dungeon. It eventually drives Emma insane, and she kills herself by ripping out her own heart and crushing it. Regina is devastated, and it drives her even further into darkness, leading to her casting the curse. The day the curse is cast, Snow and Charming's baby is born, who they try to save by sending her through the wardrobe. After casting the curse, Regina goes to gloat to Rumplestiltskin, who tells her about Snow and Charming's baby and that she is the reincarnation of Emma.Regina rushes to the nursery to find her, but it's too late, she's already been sent through the wardrobe. Then the curse comes and takes them away. When Regina wakes up in Storybrooke, she is exalted in her victory. But eventually she becomes bored of her new life, and can't stop thinking about the woman she loves. So one day she decides to adopt a baby, to try to fill the hole in her heart.Little does she know that her new son is Emma's child. Ten years later, Henry finds Emma and brings her back to Storybrooke, where she is introduced to Regina. Regina befriends Emma in the hopes of having her former love returned to her. One day, Emma decides to look at Henry's storybook, and when she picks it up, all her memories of her past life return to her. She rushes to Regina and kisses her. Regina is overjoyed to have her Emma back again, and they live happily ever after.
I hope this makes sense. The gray parts are FTL flashbacks, and the colored parts are present day in Storybrooke. I had to shorten and rush things to make it fit the song. But I think it turned out ok. Let me know what you think!
