Shrines, Ninjas and Japan’s best Soba Noodles – What else could you possibly expect from a day trip in Japan?
The small mountain village Togakushi lies in Nagano prefecture, about an hour’s bus ride from Nagano station. It’s famous for three things: Its shrines, its school of ninjutsu and its soba noodles.
The three shrines I visited for this video are most famous ones, Hokosha (the lower shrine), Chusha (the middle shrine) and Okusha (the upper shrine).
The Ninjutsu school is called Togakure ryu ninpo, which claims to be the oldest recorded form of Ninjutsu. Its current day Soke is Masaaki Hatsumi. More info on then folklore/ninpo museum plus ninja house I visited can be found here: goo.gl/hNvRho. The entrance fee is ¥600 for adults.
The soba restaurant I visited is Uzuraya, which also tops trip advisor’s list for restaurants in Nagano: goo.gl/WUdQgR. The price for Ten Zaru Soba (the meal I had) is ¥1,800 (about $18).
