The Gothic 1 Remake devs made one decision that changes everything: they deliberately
rejected the Souls formula. No stamina bar. No lock-on. No borrowed mechanics.
I'm reacting to their full combat breakdown — and I have some thoughts.
In this video I react to the official Gothic 1 Remake developer deep-dive into the
combat system. We cover directional combat, how your weapon choice (axe vs sword vs
mace) actually changes your moveset — not just your damage — and why the devs chose
to treat enemy AI like a puzzle to solve rather than a damage sponge to deplete.
There's also the transformation system debate — apparently even the original Gothic
devs said to cut it, and THQ Nordic kept every single form. We find out why.
This is the kind of design philosophy content I genuinely care about, and Gothic 1
Remake is shaping up to be one of the most interesting RPGs of 2025. Let's dig in.
