In the 7th installment of the series, I’m in Ionia, Michigan, at El Mariachi taking on their massive “Hay Caramba” SPICY Burrito Challenge!
El Mariachi is a family-owned Mexican restaurant with roots tracing back to Zacatecas, Mexico, where the family grew up working on their farm and preparing meals with fresh ingredients. After moving to the United States in the 1980s and eventually settling in Ionia, they brought those traditions with them to El Mariachi. Today, the restaurant serves a large menu of Mexican favorites, including tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, quesadillas, molcajetes, and burritos. If you’re looking for some authentic Mexican cuisine in Ionia, this is the place to be!
The “Hay Caramba” Challenge features a monster 7-pound burrito made with three large tortillas and loaded with chicken, pork, steak, rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and cheese. It’s then covered with three hot salsas, avocado sauce, queso, and red sauce! If you can get the entire burrito down within 45 minutes, you’ll get the $30 meal free, a T-shirt, and your photo on their Wall of Fame!
