On April 11 2010, 20-year-old Pralav Dhyani was working aboard RAK Afrikana when it was hijacked by Somali pirates. The ship was taken to Harardhere in Somalia, where it was held for 332 days before negotiations between the shipping company and the pirates finally came to a close. The mental anguish and trauma of being held hostage was debilitating for the 26 crew members and conditions were made even harder due to a lack of water, proper food, electricity, and healthcare. This is Pralav’s story.
