Kevin Across America | I Was In A Baltimore Riot Zone... And Witnessed Looters Set A CVS Pharmacy On Fire! 👮✊🚨🚔 @KevinAcrossAmerica | Uploaded November 2023 | Updated October 2024, 9 hours ago.
In April 2015, I got caught in the middle of violent rioting in the City of Baltimore. Like so many cases of rioting, peaceful protests quickly turned destructive and hotheaded.
The chaos stemmed from the death of a 25-year-old man named Freddie Gray. On April 12, the Baltimore Police Department arrested Gray for possession of a knife. Gray sustained fatal injuries while in police custody. He died seven days later at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center due to injuries to his cervical spinal cord.
During the rioting, people set fire to vehicles, and looted stores, including a CVS, which rioters later set on fire. Rioters raided the pharmacy, stealing countless prescription medications. In the months thereafter, violent crime increased in the notoriously dangerous city. Authorities blamed some of that increase on gangs fighting over those looted drugs.
