I went out to film a Saturday afternoon and evening in Central and Lan Kwai Fong during the Grand Finale Weekend of Hong Kong's FIFA World Cup 2026 Fan Carnival.
The six-week carnival was reaching its final phase, with Lan Kwai Fong transformed into an open-air football fan zone featuring street entertainment, live events and extended nightlife.
But surprisingly, the streets felt much quieter than I expected.
From Queen's Road Central and D'Aguilar Street to Pottinger Street and Lan Kwai Fong, this walk follows the city as the afternoon slowly turns into evening.
Then, completely unexpectedly, I encountered Allan Zeman, widely known as the “Father of Lan Kwai Fong,” while he was walking through the area with his family.
Later, an unexpected street performance brought a completely different energy to the quiet evening.
