I traveled to Iceland to find a football team playing next to a volcano. See what happens when a stadium sits one mile from an active eruption site.
This trip focuses on the reality of professional Iceland football. You will see firsthand how a local club manages to train and play matches less than one mile away from a site that erupted twice in the last year. I explore the area surrounding the pitch and speak with locals about the constant threat of volcanic activity.
We look at the history of this unique football team, including the two-year evacuation period that forced the club to leave their hometown entirely. By talking to the players, I show what it is actually like to return to a pitch that was recently threatened by lava flows. This is a look at the intersection of extreme landscape and local sports.
