In today’s video, I’m experimenting with a mix of unconventional mediums on the gel plate — acrylic paint, alcohol ink, water, powdered pigment, and isopropyl alcohol. I’m using my big gel plate and layering in textures, reactions, and unexpected surface effects as each medium interacts with the next.
Instead of pulling the print right away, I left the layers on the plate overnight — and it turned out to be the best decision. When I finally pulled the print the next morning, it came off in one gorgeous, richly layered piece. The result looks like an abstract landscape, full of depth, movement, and colour.
This print is so beautiful I can already see it becoming the perfect base for a collage painting on canvas. Sometimes the most unconventional combinations lead to the most magical results.
