The latest update to the DJI Avata drone firmware requires you to connect your smart phone before you can arm and fly - so as to comply with the FAA Remote ID rule. I did warn people about this when the Avata was first launched but not everyone was listening or believed me. Join me for a livestream sometime within the next 24 hours (make sure you're subscribed to be notified) and we'll talk about this and the future of the hobby.
