Paint by numbers has always fascinated me as an artistic challenge to try for 30 days. There is something so endearing about painting and I could not wait to give it a try.

One of my audacious dreams in life was to go to Paris and Paint the Eiffel Tower. To my genuine surprise, my husband made that happen- and it was more romantic and wonderful than I could even dream up.
The thing is, I’m terrible at painting. I love the idea of it, but my attempt at the Eiffel Tower could easily be confused with that of a toddler.
So, the artistic itch has come around again, but this time I needed help. As a complete paint by numbers newbie, I searched for where I could find a range of paint-by-numbers sets that would both fit my current skill level, which is clearly- beginner, but that also had options that would prove to be a challenge.
That’s when I stumbled on the paint-by-numbers website. Inspiration struck as I scrolled through the variety of options available. I knew that this would be the perfect collaboration to keep me accountable for the artistic challenge that I so desired to pursue.

My goal was to paint for 30 minutes every day, for 30 days, and see the effect painting has on me. More so than needing the outcome of my painting to be ‘good’ I wanted to incorporate something into my life that would force me to get away from “screen time”. You know what I mean. Also, I was hoping that the same feelings of painting in France would find their way back into my life. And spoiler alert- they sure did.
I would plan to paint either just before lunch. Or, during that dreaded 2 or 3pm slump when I usually feel the need to procrastinate. Sometimes, if I had a really busy day, I would paint after we put our kiddo to bed. I can’t tell you what a great idea it is to paint before bed, it’s such a great way to quiet the mind before going to sleep.
The nice thing about paint-by-numbers is that when you ease your way into it, you realize that you’re literally being guided through what to do. It’s almost like a guided meditation- but with a paintbrush in your hand.
