I took my American sister for her FIRST ever UK fish and chips — at Finney's in North Wales — and it instantly became one of her favourite meals of the entire trip. There's nothing more British than fish and chips by the seaside, and Finney's did NOT disappoint.
We headed to Benllech on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales to try Finney's Fish and Chips — a multi-award-winning chippy that's genuinely one of the best in the UK. Finney's started as a family business in 2009 with the goal of providing quality fish and chips on the coast, and they've been racking up awards ever since — they won the Environment and Sustainable Business award at the National Fish & Chip Awards 2025 and have been recommended by Fry Magazine as a top place for fish and chips four years running.
As my sister Malia's very first taste of proper British fish and chips, this was the perfect introduction — perfect firm white fish in a crisp, light batter and chunky chips. Eating fresh fish and chips right by the sea in Wales is one of those simple, unbeatable British experiences, and by the end Malia had decided it was one of her favourite meals of the whole trip.
