This screened porch had been neglected for decades, and what I thought would be a fairly simple makeover quickly turned into a much bigger project.
In this first phase, I’m repairing the existing porch structure, replacing damaged framing, covering and reinforcing the old deck boards, and finally getting everything primed and ready for paint.
I know this porch won’t last forever. The long-term plan is to completely rebuild it in the next 5–7 years, so this project became an experiment in working with what I already had, making smart repairs where I could, and creating a beautiful, usable space without investing in a full rebuild just yet.
And this is only the beginning. Next, I’m tackling enclosing the lower walls with beadboard, floor, paint, screens and all of the details that finally make this neglected porch feel like a real outdoor room.
