The Mecpow M1 is a tiny, fully enclosed FDA Class 1 desktop diode laser that trades work area for safety and price. I spent a month with the 5-watt version and the matching P50 fume extractor, testing kerf and cut speeds on plywood, black acrylic, leather, anodized aluminum, and slate, along with air quality and noise measurements on the P50. The 100 by 100 millimeter bed is the obvious limitation, but the removable bottom panel lets you set the machine directly on larger material and engrave through the open base. Safety is where it stands out: the lid interlock and tilt sensor both worked exactly as advertised, which makes this an easy pick for a classroom or a house with kids and pets. At $179 on its own or $259 bundled with the P50, it's the cheapest way I've found to get enclosed, Class 1 engraving on a desk.
