Do you ever feel stuck between your love of French culture and not understanding spoken French? Maybe you recognize words on the page but can’t catch the meaning when people talk fast. Or you miss the jokes and little expressions in your favorite TV shows. Well, that’s exactly how I felt years ago, but with English.
In today’s video, I share my story of living in the UK, loving the culture, but struggling to follow everyday speech — the jokes, the cultural references, the casual chats. It always reminds me so much of the struggles my students face with French, and was actually the inspiration behind Comme une Française!
I’ll tell you the story just like a friend over coffee, in the kind of spoken French you hear in real life — no slow pronunciation, no textbook French. You’ll get a glimpse of why real spoken French can feel so tricky (while listening to it!) and what you can do about it.

At Comme une Française, we specialize in everyday spoken French. We focus on three unique aspects that are different from school French, self-study books, Duolingo, etc:
1. We focus only on the specifics of speaking/understanding/being understood in everyday French and have unique ways to help you learn it properly & faster.
2. We focus on shortcuts to help you make progress faster, which also means we tell you exactly what you can stop learning to prioritize what’s really important.
3. We use French culture as the subject to make it fun and interesting for adults.
Take care and stay safe.
😘 from Grenoble, France.
