It's my version of shark week in French Polynesia, beginning in Fakarava and ending in Tikehau, two islands in the Tuamotus that are teeming with sharks (and other awesome sealife).

Fakarava is a remote coral atoll, and it's home to some beautiful beaches and lovely people, plus SHARKS.

First, I'm diving with hundreds of reef sharks, some of which we're doing at night in the pitch black. This is known as Fakarava's wall of sharks, and it's some of the best diving I've ever seen.

But we did all this to build up to the big thing - swimming with A TIGER SHARK. This apex predator is one of the types that regularly attacks humans, but I'm wondering, do we have them all wrong? Do we misunderstand? We aim to get close and personal to find out.
