Sleeping in a WW2 Bunker | Italian POW Camp
I cleaned and spent the night in a WW2 bunker.
In the shadows of Castle Hill lie the remains of a WW2 bunker.
The bunker was used right up till the end of the war, but was also used as a POW camp for captured Italians until 1947 although there isn't much left of the POW camp, just the red brick shed.
The surrounding area has a lot of WW2 history (bomber crash landing, search lights, another HAA bunker, fake villages etc.
The buildings themselves are in great condition, but most of the trenches have been filled in with rubble and Yorkshire stone a good few years ago and the main passageway to the ammo stores is now used by the farmer to store silage.
Today 9.11.24 I head to the WW2 bunker to spend the night.
Sleeping in a WW2 bunker isn’t something you do everyday so I had to go prepared.
Knowing the bunker was in a bit of a state I spent a few hours tidying the place, filling two black bags full of years worth of rubbish.
Once tidied and I set up my camp and settled in.
Food, drink and great location.
Hard work but worth it.
