In today’s acrylic painting video I’m creating a brand new painting inspired by two of my most popular prints from last year. I get so many questions about making more variants of those pieces, so I decided it was time.
This canvas is longer than the originals, and I started with a very soft bluish gray base. From there I worked with ivory black, Payne’s gray, Prussian blue, permanent violet dark, golden yellow and India yellow to create a fresh palette.
The composition evolved as I painted. There were moments of doubt, moments of rotation, moments of “what am I doing,” and then suddenly it clicked. The result is minimal, fresh, and perfectly connected to last year’s collection, but still completely its own piece.
