Stellar Blade takes its love of Nier Automata too far, cribbing story beats, tone, themes, settings and scenarios in a way that stifles any chance for Stellar Blade to develop its own unique identity. Luckily, the game plays brilliantly, with worthwhile open-world exploration, excellent combat and some truly superb boss encounters. Stellar Blade is a good game - it's just a shame it actively puts itself in the shadow of a better one.
