Growing up in the 1980s, you didn't really pick a computer team—your parents bought whatever they could afford, and suddenly you were locked into a lifelong rivalry. For me, that team was the Commodore 64. The Atari 8-bit line was always that mysterious other side I never got to truly explore.
In this deep dive, I take an original two-sided Datasoft "flippy" disk and put my beloved Commodore 64 head-to-head against the Atari 800XL on real hardware. We compare graphics, sound, gameplay feel, and quirks across 8 classic Datasoft titles to see which 8-bit machine actually delivered the superior experience.
