I had never used crop mode on my Sony FX6—until the Viltrox 90mm F2.2 EVO arrived and unexpectedly changed my workflow.
Using this Super 35 lens means giving up 4K and recording in 1080p, but it gives me a tight, roughly 140mm full-frame-equivalent field of view in a package that is smaller, faster and far easier to use than my Canon 100–400mm zoom.
In this video, I look at why that tradeoff makes sense for my corporate productions, including:
• Why two additional stops of light matter more than 400mm of reach
• How crop mode works on the Sony FX6 and FX3
• Why delivering in 1080p changes the 4K conversation
• Switching between my Viltrox 35mm and 90mm on a gimbal without rebalancing
