There’s a version of Magic I don’t think I’ll ever get back.
Those first few years when every card felt like a discovery. When a new set meant rebuilding your decks for hours, Commander nights felt completely unpredictable, and every new interaction felt like you had uncovered a secret.
I still love Magic.
But the longer you play, the more familiar everything becomes. Psychologists call this hedonic adaptation, the tendency for our brains to adjust to experiences that once felt extraordinary.
Maybe we're not always chasing better cards or stronger decks.
Maybe we're chasing that feeling of discovering Magic for the first time.
And every once in a while, somehow, Magic still manages to surprise us.
Do you miss that feeling?
