Over time, the stone became associated with the ability to flatter and speak persuasively, giving rise to the term “blarney”.
Visitors must kiss the stone while leaning backward over the castle battlements, supported by iron rails and guided by staff for safety.
This upside-down position aligns the lips with the stone and adds a thrilling element to the experience. Despite the precarious appearance, modern safety measures ensure no fatalities have occurred during the ritual.
