The Vatican telescope Lucifer is a real instrument. It sits inside the Large Binocular Telescope on Mount Graham in Arizona, operated by the Vatican Observatory and NASA. The Apache have called that mountain one of the four holiest sites on earth because their ancient legends describe it as a Stargate, a portal through which star people have traveled since the dawn of time. Dr. Thomas Horn, during research for Exo-Vaticana, asked the question nobody at the Vatican answered directly: why did they fight a prolonged legal battle, requiring an act of Congress to override fierce Apache and environmental opposition, to build on the one mountain indigenous peoples have always said opens a door to another world?
The San Carlos Apache preserved something in their oral traditions that is hard to dismiss. Their creation myths describe a bearded creator descending over a mountain in a flying disc, a dragon with the power of speech that bargained with mankind, and a race of giants called the Jendupids who were so massive they used tree limbs as toothpicks. These giants invaded the valley between Tucson and Phoenix before being destroyed by fire from the sky. That account maps onto Genesis 6 with a precision that does not read like coincidence. From Mount Sinai to Mount Hermon to the Tower of Babel, the biblical record is consistent: mountaintops are where the boundary between the human world and the supernatural gets thin, where Watchers descended and men tried to reach heaven.
The Vatican has never explained why Mount Graham was worth a prolonged legal fight when another mountain range in Arizona would have offered the same altitude and observing conditions. What the Apache knew for centuries, what the ancient texts recorded, and what the institution named its instrument may not be separate questions at all.
