I Haven't Seen He-Man 2026 Yet, But EVERY "Non-Spoiler" Review Ruins THIS!
The new live-action Masters of the Universe (2026) movie is officially here, and even though I haven't had the chance to see it yet, there is ONE massive spoiler dominating every single "non-spoiler" review and fan forum online: the complete abandonment of Prince Adam's secret identity.
To be completely clear right up front: the outrage I'm discussing in this video is based entirely on what I am reading online from the fandom, not my own personal feelings!
In the classic 80s Filmation series and the 2002 reboot, the lore was strict: only Man-At-Arms, the Sorceress, and Orko were allowed to know that Prince Adam and He-Man were the same person.
But in this new film, that secret is blown wide open almost immediately. While King Randor isn't fully in the movie—so his lack of knowing isn't a major factor—fans are incredibly frustrated that Queen Marlena (Adam's mom) knows the truth.
It's a bit of a play on how she "semi-knew" in the original cartoon, but having it explicitly stated here is really getting under people's skin. Add in the fact that Mekanek, Teela, and even villains like Skeletor and Evil-Lyn figure it out, and longtime fans feel like a foundational piece of the franchise has been erased.
Honestly, looking at the massive fan backlash online, the irony is incredible. The fandom's current real-life outrage perfectly mirrors Teela's furious reaction in the Masters of the Universe: Revelation series!
Just like Teela was incredibly angry that Adam's identity was kept a secret from her when she felt she should have been trusted, the fans are now equally furious that the secret wasn't kept from her in this movie!
Despite the heat online, I actually completely understand why the filmmakers made this choice. It was clearly done to respect the intelligence of both the characters and the modern audience.
Expecting characters like Teela to not recognize Adam just because he has fewer clothes and bigger muscles makes them look incredibly naive.
It's the exact same issue as the old Superman and Lois Lane "glasses" trope, or the dynamic between Spider-Man and Mary Jane before the comics finally rectified it (pre/post One More Day). The director didn't want to insult the fans' intelligence by pretending these characters are dumb.
What do you guys think? Is losing the secret identity a total dealbreaker for the classic lore, or was it a necessary update to make the characters actually smart?
