Cell phones are not actually communication devices, they are now digital appendages exclusively used for identity verification. More and more services are requiring apps exclusively available on mobile as this allows them to connect with your number, ID and more metadata that desktop programs would not allow. This goes for banking apps, but really any corporate application that wants a nice and juicy piece of exploitable closed source code on the most sensitive digital device you own.
