In this video I’m exploring an abandoned insane asylum that once housed the sister of one of our former presidents. Opened in the 1800’s, this was the first medical institution in the entire world to conduct a lobotomy - a surgical procedure that was believed to cure mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression. The operation started by putting the patient into a coma with electro-shock therapy, followed by inserting an ice-pick into their eyelid, hammering it into their skull, and using it to sever the pre-frontal lobes from the rest of their brain. The president’s sister was also one of the first people in the world to receive a lobotomy, and it went horribly wrong. But while exploring the asylum, I actually got hurt...
