I Found the African City Hidden Inside America is a video about my exploration of one of America's most distinctive cities: New Orleans
Everyone knows New Orleans for Mardi Gras, jazz, and Bourbon Street. But nobody told me that buried underneath the party, hidden in the food, the music, the culture, and the very soul of this city, is Africa. New Orleans is unlike anywhere else in America. And once you understand WHY, you'll never see it the same way again.
In this episode of Beyond Borders, I explore the city that should technically not exist — a city shaped more by African hands, African traditions, and African spirit than any other place in the United States. From Congo Square, where enslaved Africans preserved their culture through music and dance, to the Creole culture that blended African, French, and Caribbean influences into something entirely its own — New Orleans is Africa hiding in plain sight.
We eat the food, walk the streets, feel the energy, and ask the real questions: How did Africa end up inside America? And what does New Orleans tell us about who we really are?
