I visited Oklahoma for my 50 States of Treasure series (playlist below for all 50 state videos) and decided on the Salt Plains NWR to find hourglass selenite crystals for this episode.
These beautiful crystals are only found here in Oklahoma, they're actually the state crystal! I found plenty of very nice ones quickly and easily, literally within steps of the parking area. The landscape on the salt flats is very unique, and I even met a new friend while digging.
I highly recommend this place for a family day, everyone will find crystals, and even very small children will have lots of fun. No experience needed, it's free, and super beginner-friendly!

What to bring: Shovel, water, sunscreen, and a bucket. Limit is 10 lbs of crystals + 1 large cluster per person per day.
