The Iconic Arcade Street Fighter Alpha 2 XT has been getting 10 out of 10 reviews since it started shipping, so I bought one and spent weeks with it. This is my review: what Iconic absolutely nailed, what falls short of the CES promise, and whether an $800 home arcade cabinet earns that price.
We go deep on the Dynamo HS-1-inspired cabinet design, the zoomed-in Ryu and Akuma side art, the 68-inch height and extra-wide profile, and the marquee color issue on my unit that nobody seems to be talking about. On the tech side, this cab runs on a Raspberry Pi 5 instead of a custom PCB. I break down what that unlocks, the front USB ports, dual micro HDMI out, and the 24-inch 16:9 monitor that replaced the originally planned 19-inch BOE panel.
Then the important part: how does it actually play? Local play is excellent. Online play is a mixed bag right now, code-based hosting, no lobbies or spectating yet, no 3rd Strike online, and some hosting issues on certain setups. I also get into the control panel's rough wear-resistant texture, the missing 4:3 monitor support, and how responsive Iconic has been with post-launch updates.
