I finally figured out how to keep my pond looking clean and clear all summer long! After years of experimenting with different pond treatments and maintenance routines, I changed things up this year by using The Pond Guy's ClearPAC Plus system, improving my pond aeration, staying on a consistent two-week treatment schedule, and using a phosphate binder for the first time.
In this video, I'm sharing my final ClearPAC Plus review and the results I've seen in my 1-acre pond after using the system throughout the summer.
We'll look at the ClearPAC treatment routine, EcoBoost PRx phosphate binder, PondClear beneficial bacteria, MuckAway, Nature's Blue pond dye and Algae Defense. I'll also show you why I think upgrading to a properly sized Airmax aeration system made such a big difference.
One of the biggest surprises was the pond dye. In previous summers, I could use 10–12 gallons of liquid pond dye. This year, despite record rainfall and a lot of water moving through the pond, I've only used five bottles of the concentrated Nature's Blue dye.
I also break out the Muck Razor to show how I use it to loosen hard-packed sand and keep our swimming beach bottom maintained.
Was the pond perfect all summer? Nope. We still had some filamentous algae blooms, particularly in July. That's an important part of this review: there isn't one magic product that fixes everything. Good pond management is a SYSTEM — aeration, nutrient management, beneficial bacteria, pond dye, algae control and consistent maintenance all working together.
But the results speak for themselves. The water clarity has been fantastic, and even friends and family have noticed how much better the pond looks this year.
If you're trying to control pond algae, improve water clarity, reduce muck or figure out a better maintenance routine for your farm pond, I hope my experience helps!
