A Hummingbird Hawk-Moth stopped by our Belfast Castlereagh Hills back garden yesterday. It fed furtively for a short time from the Buddleia butterfly bush and then it dashed off next door. The time was around 2pm in the afternoon. Temperature was about 24C
We haven't seen this cute little bird-like insect in years. The last time was around 40 years ago. Again it was a really warm summer and it came into our back garden. That year we holidayed on Minorca in the Mediterranean and hummingbird hawk-moths were all around in the flower beds.
Our son Ben spotted one in his Ballymoney back garden about 3 weeks ago. So there must be quite a few around here.
Keep watching your buddleia in particular!!!!
