I want to say something important about leadership.
I live in the 9th Congressional District, so I don’t vote in the 7th. But over the years I’ve had the opportunity to witness something firsthand about State Representative La Shawn K. Ford.
This is a man who does not flinch.
I’ve seen him stand up in rooms where the opposition was loud, where the pressure was real, and where racism and resistance were present. And every time, he stood his ground when the people needed someone to fight for them.
Whether the issue was property taxes, mental health services, gun violence, or improving education, La Shawn Ford has never been afraid to challenge the system when it wasn’t working for the people.
He is a visionary...but more importantly, he puts action behind the vision.
That’s the difference between talking about change and actually fighting for it.
Representative Ford even wrote the foreword to my book Unsafe Black Voice, and that meant something to me because he understands the importance of citizens speaking truth and pushing for accountability.
So, while I may not vote in the 7th District, I can say this with complete sincerity:
If I did, I would want a leader like La Shawn K. Ford representing me in Congress.
The 7th District has an opportunity to send someone to Washington who has already shown he will stand up, speak out, and fight for the people.
Leadership matters.
And leaders who combine vision with action are rare.
