I chat about “Breakneck: China’s Quest to Engineer the Future”: Awesome Book by Dan Wang
We are all somewhat aware of China's manufacturing might, but other than that many in the West are very misinformed as to what is happening in China.
This awesome book by Dan Wang really shines light on China, and compares it to the West.
Many people are getting very concerned about accelerating climate disruption, wars, and the seeming future collapse of organized society.
I argue that China needs to be considered separately, since it has been building resilience for the last 4 to 5 decades.
Some surprising tidbits:
China is an engineering state, governed by engineers, essentially run by engineers...
USA is a lawyerly society, run by lawyers, governed by lawyers, and has trouble building anything on time or within budget, or at all.
For any manufactured product, a good rule of thumb is that China supplies the globe with from one-third to one-half of that product.
China and the USA are the only real superpowers now. China considers itself a developing nation, and will always consider itself a developing nation, since the idea of a developed nation seems to be that you can stop building things.
China has 100 million people in manufacturing, compared to 12.5 million in the USA, 8 million in Germany, and 10 million in Japan...
Infrastructure in the poorest regions of China is now superior to infrastructure in the richest regions of the USA.
And the list goes on and on...
