"I did not run from you...Man, if you would have just pulled me over"
On July 21, 2024, Deputies Ronald Bailey and Alyssa Ricketts responded to reports of a dangerous driver on HWY 326 and I-75. Thanks to several concerned citizens, Deputy Bailey quickly located the vehicle weaving in and out of the lanes on I-75.
Despite attempts to initiate a traffic stop, the driver didn't comply, and a pursuit began. Deputy Bailey performed a PIT maneuver, grabbing the driver's attention, who pulled over. The driver, Cody Vetter, was so intoxicated he didn't even realize why he was in handcuffs! He thought he was on I-75 South heading to Gainesville, completely unaware he was actually in Ocala. 😳
Vetter admitted to having 3-5 beers earlier in the day while canoeing. At the jail, he failed Field Sobriety Exercises, and his BAC readings were shockingly high at .232 and .225.
A huge THANK YOU to the vigilant citizens who reported this dangerous driver. We’re grateful to have removed him from the roads before any harm occurred.
