Unboxing:
I do like that the cardboard box has a plastic grid at the bottom to help hold markers secure.
Markers Themselves:
The markers have Arrtx screening on the bottom- no color name, but a color number on the cap Cap color roughly corresponds to the paint inside.
Additional nibs came with this set
Markers do not seem to be refillable, and Arrtx does not seem to be offering refills.
Priming the Markers:
Markers are pump action primed. It takes a few pumps to get the ink flowing, and it's easy to overprime.
Swatching:
These markers really need to be swatched, because the cap color and the acrylic ink are not 1:1, its not a close enough match that i'd like to rely on just the cap.
Testing:
Watercolor paper:
Pansy Doodle:
These are fun to use on a sturdy paper like an inexpensive heavyweight cellulose watercolor paper. If you want to use these in a sketchbook, that's the paper I'd personally recommend.
Pansy Canvas:
For larger area coverage, I would recommend either using a larger acrylic marker (like a chisel tip) or just painting hte background). These are not as opaque as I would hope, because you need a couple layers (normal, but these did boast about how opaque they are). IF color beneath isn't fully dry, the scratchy bullet nibs will scrape prior layers, so you need to be careful on non absorbant surfaces.
Paper Mailer:
These are so fun on the bright blue paper mailer. I had no issues with the bullet nibs tearing up the paper , and I love how the colors pop.
Kara Doodle:
IMO, the color gamut in this set isn't my fav for drawing people and faces. There aren't enough light skintones, and the difference between the two lightest is harsh, that peach is almost neon. I do like the selection of neutral colors and possible darker skin tones.
Cardboard Mailer:
The markers REALLY catch on the corregation of the cardboard and start to tear up the paper surface on the cardboard.
Iris Mug:
Honestly, the surface was a big pain in the butt, but that isn't really about the markers. I jump cut the process so I could pull the mug into my lap and work that way, rather than trying to keep it steady on a desk. Kinda fun, but I probably can't drink out of this and washing it is dicey. I'd love to seal it, but I've had bad experiences with aerosol sealants reactivating acrylics.
Acrylic Photo Frame:
This is a fun, cheap craft that you can do with younger artists, or do for yourself.
