Smokekit grew up in a litter of two, his brother being Brackenkit. He and his brother were always very eager to become a warrior because they spent a lot of time with their father, Adderstripe who taught them about being a warrior. You could say that he even pressured them into it. Smokekit was very excited at becoming an apprentice, "Just another step in becoming the strongest warrior in RidgeClan!" he would say. Only a moon after his apprenticeship is when Aspenbranch came along to his side of camp to talk to him. They explained that they have received a sign from StarClan that they needed to apprentice Smokepaw. Smokepaw, understandably, was infuriated about this, he was young and foolish at the time and blamed Aspenbranch for the fact he could never be a warrior. His family looked down upon medicine cats, they thought they were no real help to the clan. Out of anyone, Adderstripe was the angriest with him. But soon after his medicine cat apprenticeship, his mother caught a deadly illness, and died within the span of three days. Surely, this would only hurt Adderstripe's mental state, and he would take his anger and grief out on his son. As everything was falling apart for the young apprentice, he left in the middle of the night, but not before telling his brother. The day after, he was so far from RidgeClan that no-one could find him. The former apprentice started to live on his own among the Eye, travelling around and avoiding causing trouble. 4 moons later he met RoseDawn, also a former member of RidgeClan. He agreed with him to join his side in the upcoming war and Rosedawn took him under his wing and showed him the clans, whilst training Smokepaw as his apprentice. Then the two encountered a young apprentice named Petalpaw. Then the three started to stick together and travelled around the Eye together, until they finally got back to their old clan. Smokepaw and Petalpaw could return home, but they just didn't want to, so they left RidgeClan and spent the night outside the territory. But Smokepaw snuck out in the middle of the night to visit his brother, but as he started to walk to the camp, he found the body of Aspenbranch, the cat who ruined his life. Strangely, he started to cry, though he despised them, there was a part of Smokepaw that missed them.
