The original Pokémon games have been rebuilt in an incredible 3D environment—and I finally got the mod running on macOS!

In this video, I’ll walk you through the full setup process for playing Pokémon Red, Blue, or Yellow with enhanced colors, adjustable camera angles, shadows, zoom controls, and a voxel-style 3D world. It keeps the original sprites and gameplay intact while making these classics feel completely new again.

As someone who has been playing Pokémon since picking up Pokémon Blue in 1999, this mod genuinely makes me feel like a kid again. If you grew up with the original games, you need to see this!

You’ll need a legally obtained ROM created from your own copy of Pokémon Red, Blue, or Yellow. This tutorial focuses on macOS, but versions are also available for Windows, Linux, Android, and select handheld emulators.

Would you like to see a tutorial for getting this running on an iPhone or iPad? Let me know below—and tell me which original starter you’re choosing: Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, or Pikachu?
